Sneak Peak at my next build

My next build will be my last for a while as I need to get back to finishing some I started and stopped on over the years. This was a really cool 68 taht hasn't been on the road since 1983. It was found in the dry Nevada desert and it shows.

I knew it had the original paint under a coat of red paint put on nearly 40 years ago but what was under it and how can I get to it? I have had a few really great ones before that I was able to remove the top coat but this one was baked. I started with the right front and hood but it was not budgeing with normal strippers or sanding and I was cutting through the paint everywhere. Although I will repaint it, I wanted to bring back the original paint first just to see what I had. I found a new stripper that worked amazingly well and wanted to share that. It is PTI green aircraft stripper. it worked so well I wish I would have started with it as the paint under it is looking pretty nice. Check out the rocker not only for well it was stripped but how rust free this girl is.

Plans are 408 FI, C4, Duff Duck 2.5, 1" body lift, AC, PS PDB, Carpenter formed rear quarters. Color TBD. Here we go!

My first attempt at painting! It came out pretty good. I learned a lot and hopefully the rest will be easier than just the tailgate!

The stripper goes all the way to the metal so I would not use for just a top coat if that is what you are after. The bedliner is tough, I heated and used a scraper to get mine out. It was a tough job.

As far going through to the first coat, if you take it quickly it can happen but it is really spotty if the top coat is tough.

Very nice! What Duff's lift did you go with and how long was it backordered? I order the 3.5 with radius arms a few weeks back.
It was the duff duck 2 5". It comes with the T Rex arms and sway bars front and rear. I put one in my 66 and love it . It took about 2 months to get it.

Nice project! Whose rear quarters are those? I'd like to do the same to my '69.
Dennis Carpenter. Rust Belt is now offering a complete one piece upper and lower quarter like these as well I think.

Here it comes! My least favorite part of the build process. WIRING! To add to the frustration I decided to make it even harder by adding AC, Pro flo injection, Dakota digital dash and sound system harnesses all at the same time. At least it is starting to get cooler in the shop. First time using American Autowire also as I have used Painless and Centech before.

The new seats came in today, so I can start fitting interior pieces. I was able to get enough material to cover the rear seat and panels to match then off to the upholstery shop they go.

Have you had any issues or ‘bugs’ with the AA harness? I’m using American Autowire on my 77 and all I’ve done so far is the engine compartment. I’m dreading jumping in the rest of it. Following your build on the wiring for tips and hints.
