Steel Flares

hey, I am doing a full width axle swap and thinking about welding up some flares out of sheet metal. I have seen the toyota guys make tube fenders for their fj40s, I'm thinking about something small scale like that... I need probably a 4-5" flare and don't really want to but the oversize flares out there, but I also don't want to have some ugly ass flares on my trucks so they need to look decent. Has anybody done anything like this?

A friend of mine took a old EB top and cut around the role on the sides and pieced it together and made a set of flairs to cover his full with axels. They were 8" wide and covered the tires nicely. Just my $.02

Check out the WCB front and rear pre runner flares. I have not seen any good wide metal flare jobs on an EB, I have seen some very nice no flared metal rears (check out Bax's build for one), but that won't help with covering the FW axles.

All-ways bronco build?

Is this the Bronco from ALL-WAYS HotRod shop in AZ? If so that thing is beautiful!

Actually I was thinking about a bolt on metal flare, not something molded into the fenders. really haven't seen anyone do that before

I'd be skeptical of any oversize metal flares for any off-road vehicle...especially if you wheel it often.

Why? You can paint Urethane flares just like metal and you don't have to replace them if they bend, just repaint.

Fiberglass is just as bad as metal, I broke one of mine with a blowout, might as well replace it for what it costs to repair.

Any updates from anyone on the subject of 'steel fender flares' I'm not impressed with the fit of fiberglass flares...especially on a 77 with the fuel doors. I like the pics above of the molded in steel flare (very custom) I noticed no fuel doors though.
