When an automatic trans goes out?

Can it create a knocking sound that sounds like a failer in the bottom end of the block?
My recently Rebuilt transmission went out and left me stranded.
And then I noticed when it was idling there was a knocking in the sound of like the bottom end of the engine. The engine is also Newly rebuilt meaning there was basically only 20 miles on it.
So I'm wondering if a failure in the transmission or the torque converter could create any kind of knocking that would radiate through the crank and into the bottom end.

I never heard of such a thing, but with all those spinning things inside, I would imagine anything is possible.
But first of all that sucks!

Can you give more details though on how it left you stranded? The engine kept running, but no forward motivation?
I think at this point anything is possible.

I have more questions than answers.
Not knowing what your engine transmission combo is I'll make a random guess. A loose flywheel or torque converter bolts can make a racket along with a cracked flexplate.

If no forward motion double check that the transfer case hasn't popped out of gear.

Hi, I like the broken flex plate idea. Some Fords have a reinforcement ring behind the flex plate, some do not, so if you do not have the ring, get one. If the engine has good oil pressure the engine is probably OK. Good luck

I owned a CJ 7 that sounded like it had a rod knock. It was the torque converter. Back then, they were cheap, not so more now.

It could be possible that when the transmission was installed the torque converter wasn't properly seated. This can cause the pump or pump gears to fail immediately. Knocking sound could be broken pump gears or converter, both would cause no pressure and no movement. This would be worse case. best case is loose flexplate bolts and low fluid. Again just a guess

Given it only has 20 miles on it, very good chance. A snap ring wasn't seated correctly and parts jumped out of place. That would be paired with a transmission that has no drive in at least one gear as well.

I have personally seen a new car in the dealership that had about 20 miles on it and had a knock. The torque convertor nuts had backed off (were not torqued down) and the convertor studs were rattling in the flexplate holes.
