Which Flares . . .

. . . and why?

I got a "gift certificate" for Christmas - good for the purchase of a set of flares of my choice! Now the dilema - which ones? I want to go with wide stretched openings and somewhere about an inch or less down from the body line. I think the only choices are WH Gorilla Warflares, Silverbacks, or Duff's UFOs. I don't want/need the 4-inch wide Silverbacks so that leaves the Gorillas or UFOs. First, any others I need to consider and second, what are the pro and cons of each? How are they holding up to trail abuse?

I like the flexibility of the UFOs but not sure if I like the high gloss finish on the UFOs as much as I like the matte finish on the Gorillas.

Thanks.

i won't be running duff's flares again, their finish doesn't stay on. it's getting worse, that was a few months ago. so don't worry, the high gloss won't last long!

If you have previously had flares installed the openings may bee too large for the new flares. I bought a set from Duff thirty years ago and had trouble finding a set that would cover that cut-out.

The gorilla flares are bigger than anything I have seen. Certainly bigger than flares that were bought in the 70s.

I just replaced my fiberglass flares, with a set of Gorilla flares. I mounted them a little higher with a bigger opening. Came out good. Very happy with them.

Gary - you mounted the gorilla flares on my trail rig, want to take a second look at them? No issues with them even as Roger (or was that Caine?) scraped a tree at Blue Rocks and tore the mirror off.

WH Gorillas...

But I defiantly recommend using a stainless nut and bolt combo. Picked up a black set of hex heads and lock nuts... looks sharp and has already come in handy when taking them off.

Thanks for all the replies. I was expecting a bit more enthusiasm for the Duff's. Like I said, I like their flexibility but I havn't had much experience with them.

Ben, is the gloss black finish on your's painted on? I thought they were color-moulded?? From the pic it looks like gloss black paint over an off-white material.

Good thought on seeing if I can get some blems - this is for my trail rig and I'll be trimming the bottoms some anyway.

i have the duff's flares in white and the white is just painted on. and they aren't any bigger than fiberglass ones would be.

i used the WH , i recomend that you use nuts and bolts. i used size#10. allen headed bolts, nylock nuts, and washers with rubber bonded on. i figured once painted the tub. i wont be drilling and creating future rust issues.

Warflares look the best!

]I just added warflares to mine ,at a inch from the body line. These also are blems but I can't see anything wrong with them!

I think mine are the old bushwackers and they have faded over the years to grey. On a side note, I mounted mine with plastic rivets available at auto paint stores, they've held up for over ten years and aren't as obvious as the silver rivets are.
