    Glowing Headers

The good news is that the headers did not glow for the 15 min or so that it ran but the bad news is that the camera would not pick up the sparks. It is only when it gets warm and jumps all over. One thing that I was wondering about is that the ground from the motor is to the stud that is on...

The cap and rotor look brand new. Plugs look the same. I will try to shot a video but not sure if it will pickup what it needs to. Buck

    Glowing Headers

Evening update. I went over everything this evening and put a protector on the wires that are close to the headers. Let it warm up and once it did, the sparks came on. The wires had sparks flying everywhere, off the cap and at the motor. Didn't run it long so I did not see if the headers were...

    Glowing Headers

Sorry Alpacket, They did not touch anything in the motor. I was there every day, so I know they didn't mess with it. 68stang73; thanks for the input. I got a vacuum gauge today as well but didn't have time and didn't want to burn the one wire to mess with it. I did put it on to see and it...

    Glowing Headers

Give you guys a little update. I went out and bought a universal wire kit today. I figured that if I build them then I can blame me. Didn't look at the spark plug ends until I got home and they are straight. My plugs come out on an angle and you can do the math from there. Thank goodness...

    Glowing Headers

Just sitting there at idle at 700-800 rpm. I noticed tonight that It starts at the collector and moves up. They are shorty headers ceramic coated from BC and the 2 into 1 system.

LOL Thanks Eric! That is the last thing I need I'm looking right now to see if I have an old set from somewhere just to try.I looked at the wires yesterday and they look great on the outside but who knows what happened on the inside. I bumped the timing back to about 20*btdc at idle and its...

Thanks guys for all the good wisdom! DirkDonk: Where to start! First off thank you for all the time. I wanted to start fresh knowing more than I did before. I used a piston stop and pulled the valve cover to make sure I was on the right stroke. The 0 mark on the balancer lined up with the...

    Glowing Headers

Went out and found TDC on compression stroke. Put the dizzy back in and set it at 12* btdc. Started right up and got the carb adj. with the new settings. Used some carb cleaner and went around the whole motor to see if I had a vac leak. The idle never moved. The motor is now starting to make...

    Glowing Headers

Dirt; They are new motorcraft wires. Before I go out and buy a new set I am going to check to see if a simple ground strap will help just to check. I know not having enough ground from the motor to the body/frame will make some funky things happen. I have a large ground strap from the intake...

    Glowing Headers

Sanndmann: I am going to check all header and exhaust things tomorrow. Now that they have been threw a few heat cycles. It does sound like I might have a little leak but it is further down where is goes into the muffler. ransil; i am going to also check that tomorrow. It got to cold to quick...

    Glowing Headers

Well, I think I jumped the gun on the problem being fixed. This is the first time I have had a chance to mess with it and thought that I would see how she was doing tonight. Went out and started her up. Started fine and kicked right into high idle. Let it sit there for 2-3 min kicked it out...

Its funny that you bring up the overheating. That was the problem that made me open the hood in the first place. I thought the temp was climbing to fast and looked like it was around 210. Open the hood, saw headers glowing, adj timing, and now cooling correctly. Thanks again for everyone's...

ZF Cross member/ drive shaft issue

So, after the brakes kicked our butts a few more times, I pulled the xmember out and cut about a 3/4 inch piece out and welded in a plate. It worked out great and looks as if that is the way it came. Now the exhaust needs to be moved a little and it will work great.

Thanks to all that responded! I got the carb adjusted and it is running pretty good. I am running a "factory" two barrel carb and I do not have a lot of adjustments to play with. Now that I have it running to what looks and feels right, I am going to find tdc on number one and see if it...
