    Truck stalling when stopping

Your first post on this indicates new exhaust. Does it by chance run next to the fuel line where it didn't before? Heat soak is a real issue with fuel lines and I fought this for a while before moving the line to the outside of the frame where possible and shielding it next to the headers. I put...

    Retrofit fuel vapor carbon cannisters

Looks like a good find! Let us know if you can determine what model works and where to get them. I didn't see pricing on their site.

Holley Sniper EFI Planning and Installation

I think you would possibly notice a difference if the leak is around the carb base. Easy to test I would think by spraying some cleaner (or whatever you are using) above the throttle plates and seeing what happens. On the subject of chasing possible vacuum leaks, I'm not sure spraying anything...

Looking for Measurement for radius arms

Crawdad, Did you end up drilling these yet? I need to do the same thing and was wondering how it went for you if so. Would like to drill mine without removing from a fully functioning Bronco if possible. Thinking that tack welding a carriage bolt would work since I'm fresh out of ideas on...

Horn going off on its own?

Spring pressing against cap is what keeps the contact away from power. I bet the cap wasn't seated all the way and decided to snap off. This allowed contact and the horn blew until something melted or the horn failed. I never really did like that Grant mechanism and have fought it for the...

    Mystery wire near carb

I have a wire at the firewall next to the throttle that was used for an idle stop/anti dieseling solenoid, but it has a round connector. I used it for my 12v choke on my Carter carb and it works fine. Yours appears to have a spade type connector that could/would be used on a choke. Trace it...

    Not sure what to do

I had a similar thing happen back the Memorial Day Flood of 1981 in Austin. Had a Datsun pickup that got water up to the rear view mirror on the inside of the cab! I towed it home and proceeded to remove and hose everything down to get rid of the fire ants and mud, then let it all dry out...

    Thermostat operation...

You read it right. The OEM gauge shows around 170-175 and the mechanical with probe in the rear crossover shows slightly less because the flow is limited and it hasn't gone through the heads back to the stat at that point. Both readings are at warmed up operating temp.

    Thermostat operation...

I have a 195 tstat and the original gauge shows around 175 when fully warmed up. Also have a mechanical in the rear crossover port on my Edelbrock intake (one of the early ones that has this port) and it spikes to around 195 after the stat opens, then settles down to 165-175. These numbers...

crazy chattering noise coming from 170

I've heard that before on a 302 when the rubber on the harmonic balancer lets go. The outer timing ring on the harmonic balancer that is held to the inner part makes quite a racket when the rubber fails! Would assume the same is true for a 6 cylinder. Just something to check.

    Metering Rods for Dummies (me)

Summit has them if you can wait. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-1453/ is a link for a set, but I'm not certain they are stock for your application so you will need to confirm. If there is a speed shop in your area they might carry them too. Carter and Edelbrock parts are...

    C4 Question

Another reason I have found is that the idle may be set too high. If you can afford to adjust it down and still maintain smooth idle and charging with all accessories on, give it a shot. It doesn't cost anything and takes about 5 minutes to test! All you need is a screwdriver to adjust the idle.

    Dueling Fuel Pumps

I am installing a BC Broncos Deluxe Fuel Line kit on my Bronco and replacing all of the original plastic lines in the process. The kit has allowance for an electric pump and I am considering putting one to augment my mechanical pump. If I do add one, it will most likely be the Carter 4070...

    Vacuum leak victory!

On a related note, I just had a similar victory after replacing an aging intake gasket and valve cover gaskets from the last rebuild 90,000 miles ago. Everything is sealed up well now and not leaking anymore! It's amazing how my "carburetor issues" went away after sealing up all of the vacuum...
