    Ford 170 expectations

It will never be fast, less than a 100 hp pulling close to 4000 lb. But get it dialed in and you will probably be happy. Don't know your definition of hills but steep hills will require second gear.

Power steering on Inline 6 170

Power steering on Inline 6 170

Probably some of the members on fordsix.com have added ps to the 170 and many over there have parts to sell. Also the vintageinlines.com has or had some pulleys and harmonic balancers for sale. Ford offered ps on the 200 and 170? so parts are around somewhere. Also I seem to recall bcbroncos.com...

170 i6 air filter mystery how to mount it

vintageinlines.com offers some options but they don't fill orders quickly sometime, one man operation and he has a full time job. I buy parts from members on fordsix.com occasionally so that is a source. A long time ago I got a chrome air cleaner from one of the parts suppliers like auto zone...

170 i6 air filter mystery how to mount it

I don't know for certain but it may have had oil bath filter stock. My 66 170 had oil bath. Usually a length of all thread goes though the top and bottom air cleaner housing and into that little thingy sticking out of the carb throat then a wingnut on top to hold together and snug to carb. A...

I see where you have the points distributor. For an improvement you can go with a DSII ignition. Then keep your old points stuff in a box like I do in case I need it. I haven't in 40 years but you never know.

    66 Bronco project

Your head is definitely a later large flat top log as seen in the pictures. And with my glasses on. If you have the complete casting numbers it could narrow down if it is a 200 or 250 head and what revision year. The log total cfm and the valve sizes increased through the years. And the carb...

Well the 170 will have 3 freeze plugs and the 200 will have 4 freeze plugs.

    66 Bronco project

Many knowledgeable people on fordsix.com, a good forum for the 144-250 owner. If you check the block and head casting codes you could tell if a later 200 was swapped in which happens often. My 66 Bronco block was original but had a later head. The later head was changed as far as the carb...

    66 Bronco project

That may have the load o matic carb and distributor designed to work together. If these are both in good condition they work ok but was definitely not one of Fords better ideas. You could change to DSII but it won't look stock under the hood so Pertronix or similar will work, Moving away from...
