Take your old V-belt pulley off your old alternator & put it on the 3G. Then get a bracket to hold the 3G so the pulley lines up.

The 3G didn't come out until V-belts were gone.

my stock mounting brackets worked for 3 g , impact the pulley off and on i had to use a washer with the stock pulley to get to line up (too close to alt), also i changed to a powermaster 2 inch pulley , stock one squeeled like crazy, didnt need washer on that one... no charging issues and i got 500 wat sterio..

The bracket that works for you depends on your engine, belt system, & which particular 3G you get. All the 3G rear cases are the same (or interchangeable), but there are at least 5 front cases. Don't get one from a modular engine or from a diesel or from a V8 truck since they're the hardest to adapt onto an eB. Some of the 3Gs will fit into your stock bracket with minor grinding on the bracket. Others might need a fabricated bracket. It all depends on what you get...

Steve, do you recommend a 3G donor that will offer a bolt on solution or one that offers the best fitment on an EB?

I got mine from a '94 Taurus with a 3.8 V6. Direct bolt on with no mods. Just needed to take the v pulley from my old alt and put it on the new (to me) alt.
If you get it from a yard, make sure to have it tested prior to installation. Save yourself some hassle.

Oh, and get the connectors while your at it!
