I spent probably 3 hours getting my passenger side fender fitted and on the truck. It took allot of grinding and adjusting. I am really not happy with the fitment of that fender? The DS fender was almost a bolt on?!?! I guess in totality they were pretty easy but I wish the PS side was as nice as the DS. I have my tube core almost done, I need to fab a battery box for it and some other brackets. I am going to run it down the side and then create a bracket to tie it to the cage. I fit the fenders to match the door gap and then bolted the grill on and fit them both to the hood gaps. I am pretty happy with the out come.

These fenders with my 8x15 steel wheels fit perfect on FW axles. I am really happy there. I also am happy with the WCB rocker protectors. I hope I can match the other side as well as I did this side.

Below is the closest picture I have with the fenders on and uncut back and it looks like your grafting a 57 cheby to a CORE truck. I am not sure they really belong together? I am going to finish the tabs for the fender bolts today or tomorrow and then pull it all apart as I have 2 gallons of SEM tintable bedliner that I would like to get on the truck. If I don't get it done in the next couple weeks I may be in trouble as I have hunting, SEMA and a packed schedule through almost Thanksgiving.

I was hoping to have this driveable by winter but its not in the cards and I find myself redoing things I have done lately as I was rushing the job.

Good build. Sweet Cobra!

Thanks, I bought a 73 with a camper that I need to get together for winter. I drove the one on the right last winter and it was pretty ugly during a couple snow storms. That was also before I added 100-150 more HP!

They're awesome. Fit/finish is top notch. Now if they would only make matching bedsides....Hmmmm. (Hi Dusty)

$450 for a pair of custom fenders is a good price if you ask me....that's cheaper than you can get a pair of stock fiberglass fenders for and only ~$100 more than stock steel fenders.

Nice progress and nice GT500 there dnewman9...I got to drive a couple development vehicles back when I was working on the Mustang. That thing's an animal.
Thanks!

I think your truck will be as exhilarating in the dunes?

I think we need to have a friendly bet to see who can finish their truck first? Something like 12 of Michigan's finest vs 12 of Colorado's finest?

I can almost guarantee that yours will be done first.

Good progress today. I finished the tabs for my fender mounts. They are tacked in, I just need to pull the front clip and finish weld it. I also mounted my hood pins and have the brackets for the pins. I tell you I had a fair amount of angst as I drilled the hood but I followed my Carpenter Uncles rule of measure twice cut once. Well kind of a combination of Monk and that rule, measure 50 times drill once. I am ready to blow it all back apart and pull the tub back off, weld up a couple more holes, prime it, bed line the underside, the inside and put it all back together.

I still need to figure out how I am going to mount my battery. I have an idea for a simple tube cage, just not sure if I want to make it big enough for dual batteries or just a single?

No new pictures as it looks the same as those above, just has supports under the fenders now.

I took last Friday off and worked dawn to dusk Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

  1. De greased and sanded the whole underside of the tub.
  2. Finished welding up all extra holes and ground smooth.
  3. Epoxy Primed the tub Saturday afternoon.
  4. Got up at the Arse crack of dawn and SEM bedlined the whole thing.

I am VERY happy with the bedliner. The color seems darker than what I intended but I would rather it be too dark than too light.
I also pressed on new bearings and built my FW 9 inch disk rear. I just have to weld the brackets on once I know what angle my pinion will sit.

I also pulled the transmission/transfer case and clutch out and put the right inspection plate back on.

The last project was to take my WCB steering box brace and install it. I am actually very surprised by how crappy the stock frame supports are. I knocked them out pretty easily. I am 90 percent done there, but my brace and steering box do not match up so well. The brace does match the frame though FWIW.

Here is a little eye candy of the tub.

Cage Started, mounted behind the dash

I had today and tomorrow off so I thought I would start the cage. I put the body back on last week once I gave the SEM bed liner enough time to dry thoroughly.

The cage is a combination of several others on here, I still have a bunch to do but other than a slight over bend as I got into the rhythm of bending its comming out pretty good so far. I need to add the B pillars, seat structure, gussets and some other stuff but most of the major bending is done now.

I am not sure who started it but I mounted my cage behind the dash as well. It was much easier than I thought it would be!

I also finished my WCB Steering box brace kit. It feels good to start knocking some projects out.

I did mine like that back around '96 or so. I'm sure others were earlier though.

Here are some long overdue updates;
First the cage is almost done. Seats are mounted and all the tubes are in place. I want to add some brackets for speakers and other stuff. I need to finish weld and install the saddle gussets I got from AA Manufacturing.

Here is my tilt seat mount made from some brackets my brother in-law made and a lock from a 75 blazer out of the u-pull. I tried to use the Bronco II bracket but I want to put a drawer under the passenger seat at some point and it went to far down to allow that.

I finished my u-pull steering column. I deleted the automatic stuff off the column installed a grant wheel and column lock kit. To adapt it to a stock bronco box I bought half a rag joint in 13/16 36 spline to mount to the steering box using a factory 78/79 bronco lower. It has one u-joint and a rag joint at the bottom.

I took a Horsepower sales bracket from ebay, clearanced the side to work with the DOHC valve covers with COPS. I then lengthened it about 2 inches and mounted a circular tab for the hydroboost. I have it set up with a small heim joint and it works perfectly! I am very pleased with the setup.

I filed a small round in it and will use the factory hydroboost nut to mount this up.

FRPP headers off SVTPerformance for 75 bucks. I can use them in stock form but might cut them near the collector and rotate them 15-20 degrees more rearward. Now they point to the frame but have enough room that I think I can just bend the exhaust to route back.

Wiring harness from a 97 Cobra. I bought a ford dvd off ebay for 30 bucks and have it almost stripped of excess plugs. I will integrate this into the power distribution harness and use the COP wiring from the 98 Mark VIII to run the COPs using waste spark. Basically since the pre-99 non cop motors do not have enough drivers to fire all the cops individually you have it fire two coils at a time. One that is the combustion stroke and the other in the exhaust stroke.

Last update for now, I cut up my extra dash as I was not happy with the way the first one looked. Here is the general layout. Dash will be body color with a carbon fiber inlay similar to the other dash in this picture. I drew it in google sketchup and then layed it out on cardboard to make sure it fit right. Not positive on the final button placement but I am close.

I put the front clip on and am finishing the tube core support. I bought a Jegs aluminum radiator and need to finish my radiator mounts and finish weld it up. The core is tied to the cage at the kick panels.
I also picked up a Diehard Platinum battery as they are almost identical to an Odyssey. That should allow me to run one battery and power my winch and few lights.
