Hi EB community,

I'm a recent owner of a '68 Bronco, and I am always on the lookout for parts. My '68 came with a crappy rear view mirror, so I went about the process of looking for an original replacement. I found that the originals are super rare, and super expensive (upwards of $400 - $600), so I decided this was not really a great option. I have a CAD department in my company, so I had them create a 3D model of the bracket, and I had one 3D printed in stainless steel. The result is FREAKIN AWESOME. The bracket is super heavy duty. The only issue is that the printing is done in layers, so the finish is a little rough. I think I can easily wet sand out the roughness, but I wanted to share pics before I did this. I also found a 1947 - 1959 Chevy truck mirror on Ebay, which is a new replica, with a 5/8" treaded stem, which is a close match to the original bronco mirror, but not exact. Close enough for me though as it ran $19.99. I'll post more pics once I've polished the bracket. Thought this might be interesting to this community.

I think this is a sweet project man and it looks like it turned out great... I have an original like that one and it looks pretty spot on. It's my fav type of mirror bracket personally! It is an aftermarket dealer mirror I was told correct?

Nice, but like the great one said, 68 used a standard glue on to the glass.

66 U13 is the rare one, but it is different that the one you have.

Broncitis, What did the U13 look like? Concerning the "original '68 glass mount" I'm not a purist, I just want a cool looking mirror, and the '66 mirror was the most "unique to Bronco" I could find.

66 u13 rear view mirror is different than a 66 u14 and u15?

Like the one Tom posted.

We have one like you reproduced on ours though. It was owned by a dealership for its first 24 years, so I'm pretty certain it was a more generic dealer installed version.

They may have also been used on the U14 and U15, but they seem to only really be discussed regarding the U13 as I recall.

Perhaps they wanted a closer to the glass or more secure bolt on for the Roadster which might actually see the windshield folded down? Just a guess there?

Smoothed out all the ridges with a dremel. Thinking of sand blasting it so it's a dull finish.

I would be curious to see how well the printed part will hold up with fatigue. I know a stamped part with the bubble would do well but not sure how printed would. Please keep us posted you are charting in undiscovered terrain.

Sand blasted: The originals were painted a silver grey from what I've seen, this has the same look, but is raw stainless.

While the ground, polished and blasted part looks great, I think the raw part with the layered effect is fantastic!
Kind of like a Damascus steel part, but without the multiple colors.

Let us know if you come up with any other cool things.
