Hello everyone,

Just want to start a thread on the bronco that's been in the family from day one. I remember these broncos when I was a kid, (5yrs old roughly) riding in the dunes with the family, lots of memories. I want to make it awesome again so I can pass those experiences to my son and daughter. I've been planning this for 10yrs now, I'm 36.

Let's begin with some pictures for everyone. 🍻🙏

Thanks everybody!

It's been in the family from "day one", so to speak. There were 3 previous owners before myself. The original purchaser passed, then left to grandpa, he passed. Was then left to my uncle which I was reluctant to aquire after it sitting in his garage tucked away 15yrs!

That's about how long I've been trying to buy it. There is no specific color or plan just yet, however I do want to preserve and make it "new" again.

I'm considering a body off, blast the frame and either PC, or coat with something else and build it from the ground up.

I'm leaning towards body silver or white /black color scheme definitely not set in stone.

I'm a perfectionist so I whatever's done will be done right.

So far I'm looking at the duffy suspension http://www.dufftuff.com/System_R_3_5_Suspension_Monster_Lift_66_77_Bronco_p/5000r.htm

Disc brake conversion http://shop.broncograveyard.com/mob...Kit-w_-Lockouts-Pro-Valve/productinfo/121154/

Abvious all new window seals and dash from TBP.

23gal gas tank conversion as well.

33" rubber, 15 rims, I might have these stock rims PC black or white depending on the body color chosen.

As for the motor I have no specific plans, I will get this running for the time being, I do however want 300hp to the wheels no matter what.

So far that it.. I do appreciate any and all guidance and advice in advance!

Thank you

Rebuilding rear end. The pinion bearings were bad, axel bearings bad, was also leaking from the rear differential seal (years from the looks of it), here some pics of the seal I cannot find, does anyone know where I can find this seal, and what it's called exactly??
Thanks in advance

It's just a regular pinion seal. Should be able to get it at any auto parts place. If your bearings are bad why not replace them all. I buy mine from a guy on eBay his name is stastics or something like that

I ordered the 9" Master rebuild kit, 2.89".

Does anyone know of a good thread on rebuilding these 9" rears with the proper specs?

Also, any good techniques on getting these parts clean enough to paint? I got them pretty good with a wire brush and degreaser foam but still not good enough for paint IMO, I'll post some pics.

Would a power washer work?

Thanks

A good oven cleaner is my "poor man's degreaser" of choice...give it a good scraping with a metal putty knife first, to remove built up oil/grease residue, then spray liberal amounts of oven cleaner...let it sit and do its thing, then pressure wash...repeat as necessary...will also remove old paint, and you're pretty much ready to media blast/wire wheel/whatever you choose to prep the metal for priming/coating.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of that.

This is my first Restoration project, I can literally see 100 hours in just cleaning/prep work ahead of me, everything is so caked up.

I'll grab some wire wheels this week and hit it with the power washer too. I've never media blasted before, is it an easy process, easy enough to do at home?

There is a guy on utube that has an excellent 3 part tutorial on rebuilding the 9 inch. Type in 9 inch rebuild and you can find him. He does a good job explaining everything in layman terms. Watch it a few times and you will be a 9 inch guru. Ken

oven cleaner and power washer combo work really well. One application it melted the grease away.

I'll check out those YT videos soon hopefully. Work has been super busy lately.

Here's a pic after using oven cleaner
