Harbor Blue Build Thread

Thought I would start a build thread to document my progress, or lack of. I can't believe I created my profile in '04 and I have less than 100 posts.. I'm more of a researcher than talker :cool:

Lived in San Antonio since 2000 and have owned a '69 since '98 and have been a part of the Lonestar Early Bronco Club (LEBC) since around the same time. I bought a crawler/trail rig project in around '09 and had fun with that for awhile and sold it to a fellow LEBC member in '14.

I purchased this current build in I believe '13 and it sat mainly due to space and family commitments. I had some initial pics of when I bought it but I lost a phone that had all of those on it %)..

I will attempt to compile the pics I can locate into chronological order in order to get caught up to where it sits now.

I took as much of the original hardware I could and used a wire brush on end of grinder to clean up prior to sending off to be plated. It has been nice to work with clean factory hardware.

I hope to be able to locate the pics when I brought the bronco home, but if not I will just have to make due with the build up process. The tub was very rusty, so I was lucky enough to pic up a very clean tub from a fellow LEBC member. Looks to be an earlier model based on the holes in the firewall for the wiring harness routing.

I did manage to pick up a set of 15 x 8.5 slot mags! Will be polishing these up later on in the build.

Dash pics. Sure with PO would have done a better job of cutting out that radio hole. Just add it to the other metal work repair list.

Couple pics of the frame and VIN. The reason I listed this build as a 197# is due to the frame and title being a 1977, the tub being pre-1972 or so and having a mix of parts from other years as the bronco was incomplete when I picked it up.

Frame clean up complete. I decided on the KBS Blacktop Chassis Coater and I have to say I am pretty impressed. You can brush or spray this on, so I decided to go the brush route.

You can see some slight brush marks in the sun, but once everything is bolted on it won't be a big deal at all. Fingers crossed this stuff holds up as advertised.

Running brake lines with some double line clamps I purchased off eBay. I plan on using larger metal tubing to run most of the fuel lines as well for a clean look.

Cleaning up some of the engine parts. My '69 has a 5.0 from an '89 mustang couple with an AOD, 4.88 gears and currently 33" tires. I plan on building this bronco close to stock with the 302 and 2 barrel. Came with a C4, so will keep it mild with maybe a 1" or so lift and 31 or 32" tires.

Mounting the radius arms to attach the D44. Love the plated hardware mentioned in a previous post!

Looks great! What kind of plating process was used? Any tips or recommendations ? I want to do this with my salvageable hardware and brackets.

They were plated with clear zinc. Look for a local plating company and they will be able to hook you up.

The tub I picked up was originally Boxwood Green. However, I'm thinking of going with Bahama Blue as my '69 was also Boxwood Green. Back in '99 I had it painted Land Rover D90 yellow, but now wish I would have gone with an original EB color.
