welding up wristed radius arm?

im building a wristed radius arm and need to know what type of welding rod to use?is it ok if i just pre heat the arm and use 6013?i have an ac arc welder.thanks for any info :)

If I was doing it I would use 7018 and I wouldnt mess with pre heating it.

Use what ever you weld best with but weld with a big rod and a lot of amps. You dont want to do it with multiple passes. A 3/16ths rod works great and weld in alternating 1 inch stiches on both sides and then come back to fill the gaps. Remember to allow for your cut gap or you will come up short.
