I honestly doubt it would happen. Southern Utah is almost dependent of tourism dollars generated from mountain biking and OHV's. Take Moab (the easiest) for example. Grand County, Utah is 97% public land, and that town is entirely dependent on tourism. Probably a single digit percent of their annual visitors go there solely to hike or fish. The rest are OHV's and mountain bikers. The other 3% is pretty much small towns, with not much else being private. When the mining industry shut down there, the county almost withered away to nothing, then came all the jeeps and 4x4's....

That is the attitude the "locals" around the Upper Tellico OHVA took from 2005-2008 while "modifications to the off highway use plan" were being discussed. Now CLOSED!
To my knowledge, other than the local large campground owner, who obviously had his livelyhood depend on Tellico staying open/busy and one of the rental cabin owners, NONE of the local businesses in the closest town, Murphy, NC ever raised a finger or voice to express concern for lost $$ until it was gone. Some estimates were published in the 2-4mil. a year range which would be chicken feed compared to the $$ in the Moab region..................
Food for thought!

Having lived in Utah I have to say that I agree that this is in danger. Not because the locals will or won't pitch a fit but because this is part of a larger national steamroller with a lot of support with the current congress and administration. I'd go so far as to say baring a miracle that if the current congress wants this passed it will pass.

Folks need to start realizing that their votes have impact and when we vote in someone because they have a catchy phrase about "change" and then give the same party control of the Congress well things are going to happen that we don't like.

This is an easy win for those politicians that pander to the liberal tree huggers. I don't see how this won't pass. I don't know of any special interest group with enough horsepower to stop it and the power is so lopsided in DC now that like I said the ONLY thing that will stop this is if the Dems decide they want this for their liberal constituents they will get it.

We need to fight this tooth and nail as it will set a precedent for the rest of this country's public lands. The most amazing thing about this is that since no Utah Congressmen or Senators would carry the bill to congress, SUWA got New York Representatives to do it!!! ?:? :( :-X :-[

I can not believe that is even possible and yet here it is. A new law is needed that disallows anyone but reps from the home state to propose legislation. We need to empower state and especially county govt. to excercise their rights to govern their own public lands.

Don't believe for a second that radical green activists and their college buddies in the BLM and Forest Service give a dam about lost tourism dollars to the local communities. Their goal is control and it is just one sliver of an overall move to implement socialism!!! Be very concerned!!

Done. Want to help more? Read my Sig.

Maybe the Admin or a Vendor could step up with an "incentive"(which should not be needed) to stimulate a CB membership drive for eb owners to sign up.
and my $ is where my mouth(keyboard) is

I wish we could organize against the enviros. Here in Cali we are about to lose are right to fish the coastal waters thanks to the enviros. Why can't ALL of us unite against this shit. My two favorite hobbies are being taken away and my children may never get to enjoy them at all. Because the enviros are so well organized and funded. We would stand a chance if we all stood together. But how do we get all off roaders, hunters, mountain bikers, fisherman and any others together as one voice against these idiots that want to take away our rights.

Have to stop them from being elected. The time to fight this stuff is when they are running not after wards. The problem is the left pandering Democrats have the power now and can basically do as they please. And as we all know so many issues are being argued right now this kind of issue falls by the way side.

The only real way to stop it is to let them know they will lose the next election if they vote for this. BTW I think both parties are full of A$$e$. Both parties pander to the loud extreme groups while folks who work hard and just love the country and want a good life for their family get left by the way side.

In other words I won't engage in a RW vs LW debate they are both bad masters.

Don't look now, but the famous Chile Canyons of Las Cruces are nearly done, too. Our wonderful congressmen submitted their bill to congress just this week to classify all of our desert canyons as wilderness areas. 259,000 acres, gone.

The greenies are well-organized, well-funded and have elected their own people. They have worn us down here - our clubs splintered with politics, we ran out of money, and they are still buying full-page ads in the local papers.

Luckily, my Bronco comes with don't-give-a-shit steering. I can pull my plates, load my gun, and stay on the trails until they come get me.

sadly, the green movement is stronger than ever, we have 100k hybrid cars and every manufacture is building "green cars".
I will continue to donate to Assn. who make a difference.
