"The Racing Bronco" Restoration

After years of sitting idle, tuck back in the corner of the garage, the opportunity to restore an early part of Ford racing history has presented itself. In the days to come, I will introduce to the Classic Bronco members the restoration of a 1966 Bronco build for Sand Drags. From what I have thus far been able to gather, this Bronco was well known in Southern California during the late ‘60’s. In 1970 it was sold to my Dad who went on to race 2 more years before going into retirement with the occasional outing to prove it could still beat up on the Jeep crowd. “The Racing Bronco” as it is known to our family, has some very unique features that I think will make for a great build thread.
As the build moves along, I hope to also relate some stories regarding the Bronco and would like to open the thread to anybody out there that may remember it from its Southern California or Utah racing days. This build will take place from now, thru the winter in preparation for the Fabulous Fords Forever show at Knott’s Berry Farm in April 2011.
I’m really looking forward to this build; I hope there are those out there that also get a bit of enjoyment out of it.
Admin, I sent a check last week to update me to Contributor, hopefully the check will arrive soon, if it has not already, and then I will start posting pictures as the build goes along.
Thanks to this forum for giving me a place to share what I think will be a great part of Bronco History.

Awesome, Brian! Looking forward to the rebuild on this classic truck. Have you been able to track down Charlie yet? If not, I might be able to help on that account in the next week or two.

Pictures will start to flow as soon as I have my Contributor status. For the moment, look at my Avatar. That picture was taken in Rock Springs WY in May of ’70 shortly after Dad bought the Bronco from Mr. Erickson. He ended up winning the C Modified class when the Bronco was actually classified as E Modified, a two class jump.
Todd, if you have any information on Charlie I sure would like to gather as much as possible regarding the build and early history.
Thanks,
Brian

Ok, now that I’m a contributor I guess I should at least post a couple of picture to get things started and bring this thread back to the top. The two pictures I’ve started with are from 1968 and 1970. The first one is prior to my Dad buying the Bronco when Charlie Erickson still owned it. From the writing on the photo it is from Riverside 1968. The other picture is the first race after Dad bought the Bronco, Rock Springs Wy, 1970. Hope you enjoy, as I have more time I will post more pictures. It looks like the tear down will start sometime early November. I’ve got to take a couple weekends to prepare the garage for the build.
Brian
This is my first attempt at posting pictures, I hope all goes well

Is this a turbo charged six cylinder? Looking forward to your build, nice to see another Bronco that doesn't crawl.
