Ammeter wiring

It doesn't appear as though my ammeter is working, zero movement. I looked into the diagrams, tracked wires and ended up confused. Does the black wired just route through the circular meter mount?

I've owned four EBs and never looked at how the ammeter in the instrument cluster works.

Not a big fan of the anmeters. With the way we all upgrade our alternators and electrical I would recommend you replace that meter with a voltmeter as many have done here.

Yes it just goes right through the center. That one had me confused for a little while also. As Herman has said alot of us have switched to an amp meter.

It's inductive, so it works like a transformer or antenna. And even when it was new, it wasn't very accurate or reliable, and what it showed wasn't very useful info. A voltmeter is a BIG improvement. Wire the + side to the hot side of the IVR and ground the other side to the cluster case. Simple, safe, effective.
