If it looks as good in person as it does in the pics...I'd say over $30k

It would be interesting if the annoucers even knew what a Bronco was, let alone show the auction on tv. Usually they mostly show non-ford's auctions when I watch it.

did you notice the radiator hose and tho location of the Ranger badge under the gas cap? Neither one looks right to me. Not that all bidders are going to notice of course, but having two different types of radiator hoses literally spliced together, when a direct-fit one is still available is just plain screwy.

Can you even have a Ranger with chrome trim and it not be a Sport too? Maybe I'm wrong on the Ranger badge, but it looks to me like they used a pickup truck as the model for the location of the badging. And shouldn't there be a 302 badge on the front fender too? Too bad they didn't bother to source a hose for the air-cleaner's cold-air intake either.
Oh well, can't be too picky with "1 of only 311 with that option" as they say in the writeup.

I'd love to see a Barrett Jackson Bronco auction televised! I see lots of Mustangs. I bet it would go for $30K, easy.

Rangers are not Sports, even though they have a lot in common. Does look like a pickup emblem. Definitely not original. I noticed the upper hose setup as well. Weird stuff. %)

Does look like a pretty nice Bronco though. My guess is for in the high $20k's. Original Broncos don't seem to bring as much as modified ones on Barrett-Jackson.

You're right, but I thought you could get a Bronco with both the Ranger and Sport options, and that if it had chrome, it would by necessity have both. Which is why I was asking about the relationship along with the chrome trim.
Didn't know if you would have a Ranger that was not a Sport too, with the trim.

I guess I'm just mixing my options then, if each one was a separate entity and ordered that way. So you could have a Ranger with trim and not have the Sport option it sounds like.
What exactly was included in the Sport again? I know there are threads here, so I'll go do a quickie search to refresh my memory.

Like you said though, it's a very nice Bronco no matter how you look at it. Hopefully it's not just a 20 footer though, and will stand the test of closer scrutiny.

You know that someone at the auction who doesn't know any better wants one and has more money than brains on this subject and will pay till he or she gets it! I agree that its not complete under the hood and it does make you wonder where else its not. I'm not going to guess how much it brings cause every time I watch that on tv I end up thinking " I can believe those people are bidding that car up that high, what dumb ass's". Then again I also know that you can get that kind of money into anything these days to get it nice. Still a very nice uncut rig though!!!

Even some of the high prices they pay are less expensive than what places will charge to restore a car for you. Most the cars there are of very nice quality. If you want a nice hot rod for cheap, go early in the auction and you can find one for half the cost of restoring one yourself. If you do the work yourself, then good, but some people like to just buy a driver ready car.

Matt Stone is actually very well versed in Early Broncos. He's done articles on them for both Motor Trend and Motor Trend Classic.

And, the "announcers" don't choose what vehicles are show on the Speed broadcasts. Speed and Barrett-Jackson agree on what hours are televised, then I'm pretty sure the auction company decides what lots are on stage during what hours.

The mounting plate for the a/c compressor explains the odd radiator hose set-up. When the compressor is on that side of the engine (usually because a Thermactor pump is on the other side), the installation requires creative routing of the upper hose. The usual hose position is right where the compressor would be.

(There are cleaner ways to do it though. Mine has a flex hose that works its way between the distributor and compressor, then curves around where it links to a straight piece via copper tube. This one looks a little sloppy, to be sure.)
