B.C. Header Install Question...

Hi Guys,
I'm dirty, under the Bronco, just got my old exhaust off, fun, fun, fun.

Now I'm about to install the my new B.C. shorty headers.

Question, what does the oil dip stick mount to?

Is it me or do these go exactly where the dip stick is located?

just bent the dipstick tube how i needed too and didnt bolt it down, just be careful not to create an oil leak at the oilpan. KC

I just ran into this same problem with the dipstick in my 351 and my Wildhorses shorty headers. I ended up cutting the bracket off so I could get the headers on. The dipstick is now just held in place by the threads in the pan.

Thanks guys, ARR...I should have played that game "Operation" on Christmas eve when I was a kid. I just dropped the clutch linkage to get the driver's side on, I guess the oil dipstick was the easy side... FUN times!

I had the old push in style. I also had to massage the dip stick tupe to clear the headers. No matter how much RTV it always leaked a little at the pan.

I ended up swapping in a new 5.0 mustang pan and dip stick tube. The dip stick is now located in the block.

I did have a 89 5.0 block to make this possible. No leaky and dip stick bolts up correctly with headers.

I drilled out the rivets, made cork gaskets, and sealed up the oil pan with a stock stick long ago and it still doesn't' leak...maybe it will start tomorrow.

I ended up taking a piece of string and tieing my 7/16 wrench to my wrist HAHAHA!

I'm done for tonight...zzz

Just imagine if you had a 351 with the dual sump pan and the dipstick on the driver's side too.....Thankfully no clutch linkage on mine. That's how mine is and getting the dipstick to work with the BC headers killed few hours I'll never get back. I didn't cut the bracket off the tube, but it is bent all funky to line up and hold. I also had to bend the dipstick tube itself so it wasn't pointing at the firewall....now it pointing towards the front of the engine. Good times.....

I had to bend my oil stick all over the place to get my BC shortys in. Eventually I will go the Lokar route. I would need the screw in type for my 351W. But it is pricey! Let us know what you go with. Good luck!

You shouldn't have to mess with the stock clutch linkage to install my headers but the verious dipsticks can be challanging. I find that the pass. side dip stick goes up through the header most of the time and the drivers side goes outside the header most of the time. Sometimes the Locar is just easier.

Chuck, thank you for the info. and thank you for the great product! I love my new headers.

I didn't want to scratch up the headers on the install so I dropped in the clutch linkage on the drivers side for a smoother fit up in. The linkage isn't really a big deal to remove, 1 spring, 4 bolts, done.

On my stock oil dip stick I bent the tube straight and reformed the bracket so it could reach the shock tower. On the back of the shock tower the was an existing hole so for now that's where I've got the dip stick attached to.

I'll take a completed pic today and post this evening.

This is how mine turned out....sorry about the crappy pic. There is some time, too much time, in re-bending the tube itself and the bracket to make it all work. This is the screw in dipstick tube of a 351w dual sump pan.

I thought so, I've never had a 351, is it normally on the driver's side? My 302 is on the passenger side.

Yes, I believe so. The original dipstick on this engine which went in thru the block vs. the pan was also on drivers side. My old 302 was pass. side....and I wish this 351 was....too much crap going on on the drivers side.

Same headers and I used a Lokar stick. I originally ran it up between header tubes and then moved it and ran it up and forward under the tubes to the front. Between the tubes straight up seems like it would work best if the stick were a few inches longer.

Thanks Chuck. Stuff taking a lot of time is the death of me driving this Bronco again, hopefully driving soon. I work slow though. ;D
