I'm sure I'm going to need help along the way so I'll start this thread to ask some questions.

I'm adding an astroboost setup on an angle bracket with an ebay bellcrank. This is getting added to my existing explorer serp setup. I had power disc/drums already.

So I got it all bolted up. I have hood clearance issues with the stock astrovan master cylinder.

From what I read my solution is a 75-80 Camero master cylinder.

Weasel is the only guy on here that I've seen with an angle bracket and an astrovan master. He has a custom mount on the bracket that lowers the booster. I don't want to do that.

So my problem is I really want a master cylinder with a plastic reservoir. Am I doomed to a camero master or is there a way out?

I paid $40 for the Chinese Camaro master. Is that all you need to take care of the problem? I've heard from some that a body lift will help. ?:? Hmmm, I don't think that's gonna work.

I want a plastic reservoir. A body lift wont do anything for hood clearance. It'll move your h-boost away from your engine intake though. Not an issue with an angle bracket.

You could put a couple of washers on each of the upper studs where it mounts to the angle bracket. That would angle the HB unit and the master down slightly to give you the clearance that you need.

Not a terrible idea.

I just got brave after seeing 904Bronco's picture and went out to the garage and slammed the hood real good. It closed. Looks okay. I can't see what kinda clearance I have with the hood closed though. Got a light in there but no where to really get a good look at it.

There is a shorter plastic reservoir that will fit the astro master. It has two larger reservoirs that are conjoined to each other but the reservoirs themselves are separated by a baffle. Did that make sense ?

I think these came from early 90s S10 pick-ups and Blazers and their GMC counterparts.

I have the camaro m/c but will go this route when it starts leaking.

Okay I'm assuming this is what you're referring to;

88-94s10mastercyl.jpg

Lists as 88-94 s-10. It doesn't look much shorter but I'll have to check next time I'm at the wreckers. Thanks for the info.

You could try putting a glob of clay or similar on top of the master and close the hood. This would show you what you have for clearance.

Well I picked up a 88-94 s-10/blazer master cylinder reservoir today. Not gonna work. Its the exact same height as the astro van reservoir (2 1/4 inches). And since the two reservoirs are now the same height it actually makes my problem worse as the reservoir is higher closer to the fender now. Oh well, now we know. Looks like it would be a good addition to a hydroboost setup that is firewall mounted though.

Still need to get my hands on some playdoh/silly puddy or the sort. My kids are in bed and I don't know where their stash is at. I tried a ball of masking tape and I'm willing to bet I have equal to or less than 1/4" clearance.

Damnitalltohell - I regret my seemingly bad advice messed you up.

Again, sorry !

No worries. got some other stuff i needed at the wreckers anyways. ive made more expensive mistakes.

Ill grab u a pic of them side by side.

I got all my lines plumbed last night. just have the brake lines between the master and the proportioning valve to deal with. how should i go about dealing with the 5/16 line out of the master? my stock style proportioning valve is all 3/16. i see some step it down through a summit adjustable valve. im not sure if that is in lieu of a frame mounted prop valve.

Well got the brake lines run to the proportioning valve last night and got all my leaks fixed in the ps system. Need to get my dad over here to help bleed the brakes.

My power steering has never been great. Chalked it up to using the aeroquip fitting on my explorer ps pump instead of the lee's fitting. Now that I've installed the hydroboost I think my ps is even worse. I think I'm just going to order the lee's fitting and a new ps pump.

I hate these powerflex russell hoses. I'm better at putting them together now but still not great. My latest problem is putting a hose together with angled fittings on each end. Its a major pain in the ass to line up the fittings at the right angle on both sides. The hose always wants to spin as you're tightening the fitting throwing itself out of alignment. I had to give up and come inside last night before I started throwing tools across the garage.

Oh well I got 3 months to figure it all out before the truck is back on the road for summer.

Looks like I have to go across the border to an american napa to get an explorer ps pump. 5.0L explorers are almost non existent in Canada. Parts place didn't have any in BC.
