OK crewwzin informed me a while back that I can change out the shifter plate with a 99-03 f150 4x4 to move my shifter back a bit. Ive been on the search but no luck. I found this on and am curious if it will work. Guy says, "IT FIT'S A 1988-95 FORD F150, FULL SIZE BRONCO, AND ECONOLINE WITH A M5R2 FIVE SPEED TRANSMISSION." but it looks farther back than mine and if so will my original forks and rails work too?

From all of the research I did when contemplating a 4 speed or 5 speed I found that there were 3 shifter positions for the truck M5R2. There is one that is even farther back than that one(99-03). You currently have the one that is farthest forward and the one pictured is the one in between. I see no reason they wouldn't interchange. You would need the shift rails and possibly the forks. Your forks may work but the shift rails would not work from cover to cover.

Hello and thanks for the post and pics. I am in the middle of the same M5r2 swap. Did you have to swap rails and forks or just the to plate. Also, how did you do the clutch rod to MC linkage? Thanks.

Ok. I went through this also. There are three positions for the shift tower. One is for pre 87. Next is 88 to 94 or 95. Then is 96 to current. No difference between 2x4 or 4x4. Ford part swap manual says the first two interchange but the third has shift forks of a diffent material so although it will physically bolt to the top the shift forks will prematurely wear out. You can use the current body style truck 6 cyl m5r2 trans and have the latest version with the farthest back shift location

Also forgot to mention to replace the rubber shift railmplugs while you have it off. They typically leak. Use dorman 555-108 freeze plugs for this

M5OD-r2 Shift cover

Hello and thanks for all the information. Would you happen to hav a picture of the futherest bach cover? I am doing this now and I believe I have the mid cover. It's out of a 97 F150 with a 6 cly engine. What specific vehicles have the furthest back cover. Best regards and thanks.

I think its 99 and up have the rear location. Mine is a 2004 and its the most rear location.

I made my own cross member and you will need to fab a frame hanger to support the 205. I used the stock frame mounts that the 3 speed cross member bolted to and took some 1x4 stock and just built the cross member to clear the front drive shaft and my exhaust. I have an old thread out there that has pictures of my over built cross member. lol

I also have pictures of the hydraulic clutch set up I made.

I made my CM out of pipe angle iron and flat plate. I am using a 205 as well. I did not support the 205. Do you think I need to do that?

Thanks. Does your have cast to aluminum shift collars? Also, did you have to cut your front floor supports or did the shift whole come in rear of the floor support? Thx.
