Hey everyone. Been on this forum for a while and today i finally got my first project. Saved a 73 from the crusher. The money was right and if nothing else at least i think the frame is solid. It was filled with all kinds of junk the guy was going to take to the salvage yard. Could not tell any thing with floor boards. Was missing engine, trans, and rear axle for sure. Now for my first question. I got the vin off the glove box, as it has no title. Is there any other way to verify the year? It still has drum brakes in the front. The guy advertised it as 77. I used vin decoder and pretty sure i came up with Feb of 73 for production date. Cant wait to dig into this project. Thanks for any advice. JT

You can
Post the VIN here
Also on the top of the frame on the passenger side just rear of the front shock mount the vin is stamped in the frame.
And Post some pics

Thanks guys. The tag in the glove box has U15GLR30373, W.B. 092, color 6, model U152, body 3, axle B98, dso code 41. The transmission code looks like an 8 but guessing that is really a G. So if i got it right its a HD package Built in feb of 73. brt med blue. V8 Auto trans. 3.5 LS axle. Chicago as dso.
So what does the 8 after the 9 in axle code? And does dso where it was sent after build?I'm loving this little investigation

i posted the only pics i got today in my garage. not sure how to post them here yet

You can post pictures 2 ways
1. Host them on a photo site like photobucket then use the IMG code on that site to link them
2. The prefered method is to become a contributor http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34373

This is linking to a photo site

8 is a front axle code. It means trac-lok in front and no power steering.

Congradulations!

Got more there than I started with. I started with a tub, tailgate and glovebox door, the rest was either built from scratch or scrounged. Also had a ton of help from folks on here. Happy buidling!

Went down and picked the old girl up today. To bad it could not have been last week. But the weather usually does not stop me. Got her home and parked her in her new spot. Now the fun begins, :)
