Playing around a little today at the pull a part. Not looking for anything really specific. Was looking at Explorers for some serp stuff. Looking for some older cars for potential interesting side marker lights. Found a Jaguar that has a really cool fuel filler cap I might go back for. I found a 1970 F-250 that had an interesting shifter handle for the floor shifter. I did pick that up for possible use with my NV3550. So as I walked around, I see an old Mercedes ( 1971 280 ) that has some pretty cool chrome trim side marker lights. All 4 are there and in tact. So as I look at this car I notice several things. Really nice bucket seats in almost mint condition. Then I notice the vent windows. They have integrated handles that slide forward to open them. I pulled back the door panels to get a look at the mechanism. It is really an interesting little device. Opens and closes the vents. You can push the window further open if you want. They are spring loaded to lock tight. So, ok, yes, I am going to see if I can integrate these into my doors. The vent windows have a rod that goes down into the mechanism and then lock into place with a set screw. You go to the pull-a-part just to look around, and find stuff calling to you to take them home and make stuff. Damn you PAP.........Any thoughts, suggestions, etc are welcome.

Ok, here is what I got done today on passenger side. I am actually pretty happy with this. Cut it down to just what I needed. Also had to cut small access panel in the door. I will put a cover over this when done. I will be using either rivets or sheet metal screws to secure this in. You can't get it in with it attached to vent window frame. Has to go in first, then vent frame. I cut the pivot arm off of the Mercedes vent window, did a few measurements, then welded the arm onto my vent window. It works perfect. You can push window open as far as you want. It also snaps locked when completely closed.

Nice Mod! I just reworked the window frames, window tracks and felts as well as the vent window pivot posts in my 72. I had looked around for a way to remove the glass from the metal frame. It is held by a compression rubber seal. I found soaking it in Berryman's B-12 Chemtool and a razor blade worked about as well as anything. Desolve the rubber around the glass to let it turn lose. Acetone also worked if you keep it wet. Turned out nice once you figure it out!
