Cut off the rocker and use 2X6 tubing. Weld it to the cut off portion of the rocker and then it acts as a rock ski and aids in stiffening the body up.

My rock skis are 4" X 4" square 3/16" thick tube with end caps welded on. I did the 4" square tube to help protect my front 12 gallon tank. They work well.

You can use anything from 4"x4" angle iron, for max clearance to 2x6 box, 2x4 box or what I think looks the best 4x4 box. I have done them all, but mostly do the 4x4. If you blend it in, it looks stock to the average person. its all in what you want. the 2x6 sticks out a little, and aids as a step, or do like this and weld a step on the box tubing.

Reason I am saying cut the lower portion off is to also gain you some ground clearance. After cutting the rocker out and welding in the tubing you should be gaining around 4" of ground clearance.

The 2x6 tubing sticks out about 2 inches. Not really enough to use as a step, plus if done like Kyle said, it's too high to be used as a step - another inch and you can step in! What it does do is give added protection for inserts or doors. The 6 inch width is well worth it in my opinion.

Some pics right after I installed them several years ago. All the damage you see was done before I installed the sliders.

Just as an FYI, you can buy a stick of 2x3 a lot cheaper than 2x6 and it's long enough to build both sides 2x6 by welding 2 pieces together before you fit to the Bronco. Not that more strength is needed but you then have a wide strip through the center. That's what I did on the 75 Bradlee and I have been putting together for several years now, might get to try them out eventually.

How and where did you attach them. Seems like a lot of weight that needs support.

I did mine like Kyle's. After gaining the ground clearance, you can't run the aux. fuel tank. That would then become your passenger side rock ski.
