Rebuilt Title

I just joined up with the site but have been a long time bronco fan. I recently got a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a half cab bronco that was going to waste in a guys yard here in Florida. I paid the man $500 for the whole truck with a title. When he said $500 I got excited and did the deal and didn't question him as many of us probably would have haha. But after further inspection I got a title with a u14 Vin and a body with a u15 vin displayed. The problem is that in Florida you must have the VIN displayed on the vehicle to match the registration... But I don't have the title for the u15. So I found the VIN on the frame in hopes that it would match my title and the dang thing is a U13!!! So I had FLDHSMV come out and inspect it and they say I can register it but they have to issue me a new rebuilt title with a new VIN number because the truck has been pieced together obviously. So long story short I will technically have a 2014 1966ish early bronco haha. How bad is that going to hurt me when I get ready to sell it?? Anyone know a way around that so I can use my title? I would love to be able to hold my VIN number because I fear it will hurt me one day in the future when I get ready to sell it. Any advice???

Are you really concerned about resale price? Or is this going to be yours? If your getting it to sell, use it as a parts truck and find another, don't throw the money into a known bad title issue.

Seriously that is the norm in the deep southern states (especially FL), it's rare to find a Bronco that title matches the vin on the frame.

Since the truck is obviously pieced together (so many are..including some of mine) the only thing that matters is simply having a valid title. In some states (like the one I live in), getting a "new" title is about impossible, so be glad you live in a state that even does that. ;)

And welcome!

That's true. The guy who had it before me just went and got it registered under the VIN on the title when it didn't have anything even close to it on the truck (which is extremely illegal and your vehicle can be seized) and drove it around all the time. I'm just glad I can get it on the road. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon anyways. I want to enjoy it for years to come. Just wanted to pick you veteran bronco guys brains on the matter. Any more advice is welcomed!!!

Let me get this straight, your title does not match any VIN on the body, frame or glove box door? If the body is the 66 then the VIN could be on the driver's kick panel. What year(s) are the title and the various pieces?! If the title VIN does not match any of the physical VINs then this might be problematic with other states if it's ever sold or moved out of Florida. If Florida will give you a legal title then go for it!

There is another option. You could get a new VIN tag made from a place that is liscensed to do that. But you could still run into issues if that VIN is being used on another Bronco somewhere.

Correct! What a cluster right?! The frame and motor are supposedly a 66 and the body is supposed to be a 72. But the title I have is for a 66 but does not match any VINs on the body or frame. There's three different VINs... U13 on frame, U15 on body, and U14 on the title. The official for Florida department of highway safety and motor vehicles out of palmetto, fl advised it could be titled but they would have to create a new vin number and title for it. Essentially making it a brand new 2014 19something bronco!!! I think a Johnny Cash song addresses my problem here lol!!!

Any idea of where I could look to find that place?? Any idea on the legality of that? Last thing I want is to get in a pinch.

If FL gives you a choice of VINs to use do the U13 on the frame. Most states go by the frame as the overriding VIN AND the U13 VIN should be more valuable! ;D

Oh believe me I would love to and even asked if that was a possibility but he said no. Anybody else had anything like this happen and find a remedy to keep the old VIN number? I would much much rather keep any of the old numbers as to getting a new one. But a early bronco is an early bronco, it'll just take some extra explaining if I ever sell it I guess.

Resale shouldn't hurt you unless you are talking about a high end rig. I see people get worked up on a rebuilt title on a cheap ride and I scratch my head wondering why. Generally most insurance companies claim a rebuilt title is Worth 20% less. If you try to trade at a dealership they try to do 50%. On a vehicle less than 5-10 grand its almost a no issue UNLESS you try to borrow $ from a bank. Most banks won't loan $ on a rebuilt. If you gave $500, who cares if its a rebuilt title. Many states don't brand titles on OLD vehicles. I would let the state give you a vin to avoid future hassle especially if it's easy...

If fla. dmv is going to issue a title what number are they going to use? Are they going to use any of the 3 on the truck or make up their own? And if so, where are they going to make you put the new vin number plate, are they even going to issue one or make you put one on the truck?

To me it wouldn't matter as long as I had a title, rebuilt or otherwise. But, I tend to keep my Bronco's as I've only had/have 1.

It isn't like these trucks are uni body vehicles with no frames where a fender bender can disorientate the entire vehicle. >shrugs<

Edit: Plus, you would have documentation as to why the rebuilt title with an explanation. Bah, what do I know.

Have police dept or dmv run all 3 vin numbers to make sure they are not stolen. If not then apply for a lost title for the 66 U13. If that doesn't work contact one of the out of state title companies and have a new title printed in your name using the 66 vin. At least then the new title will match the frame. I think one of those out of state title companies charge somewhere around $200 for their service. I did this once for an old motorcycle that didn't have a title.

If I was in your situation, I would do this... this is probably the best 'value' return you can get. if it's ever sold.

If you have a Florida title they don't need to see the vehicle to issue a new one in your name. They only inspect vehicles that are being brought in and registered with out of state titles. That's so they know there's no funny business when issuing a Florida title for the vehicle. So, unless it just bothers you go down and register it and have fun with your new Bronco. Or should I say Broncos? haha

If its a u13 frame then it's a roadster bronco. Only 3 years were made that way. Post up the vin and see what month production it is, or go to broncohio.com and look it up. Then apply to marti and get a new vin tag and then apply to the state for lost title. If you could do that in your state. Just a thought.

Id's say register it and move on.

Not to change the topic but anyone seen an EB with the Vin on the door pillar and the glove box one number off?
