What is this boss for on T-bird caliper?

I just installed a driver's side Reid Dana 44 Ford knuckle. When I tried to put on my T-bird caliper, I found an interference with a boss. Anyone have any idea what this boss is for before I grind it down? I'm afraid to start grinding and then get brake fluid everywhere.
The Reid knuckle is designed around the Bronco knuckle so it was meant to use the Bronco caliper with the smaller piston. I'm assuming the larger piston of the T-bird caliper is why there's an interference.

I have no idea...I'd just take it off with a grinder. The bore for the piston is circular, so removing the boss shouldn't pose any risks to the integrity of the caliper itself. My best guess would be that they added it for molding/casting reasons or possibly orientation or locating when machining.

I ground it off and there was nothing there. I had to take the whole thing off and then some. After removing the boss I had to grind a little more to allow enough clearance for the caliper to move.
Maybe this will help the next guy who uses a T-bird caliper on a Reid knuckle.
