BC's adjustable track bar

just wanted to say, if anybody needs an adjustable track bar, give chuck a call. he really does a nice job puting them together. as we all know the upper bushing is the one that goes out first, and he uses a heim joint there. he also threads the tube itself instead of welding in a bung. i look forward to puting it on, i'm too busy showing it off right now.

Thanks, it has been a long time coming. The idea is to have as little of the heim threads sticking out of the tube as possible so measure carefully. The 1/4" DOM tube is threaded 7" so it can be cut to fit any lift.

I never thought about cutting it, but mine seems too long. I'm running your 3.5" lift. Is it typical to have to cut your T-bar with this lift? How much can be safely cut off?

I made them to fit the 5.5" + lifts so the 3.5" will need to be cut. I have instructions on how but basicly set your EB up the way it sets and center the axle under the body and cut the track bar as long as you can and screw the heim in as much as possible. Give me a call and I can fax or E-mail the instructions.

just curious being an ex-machinist, how are you threading it 7 in? wouldnt it be better to just thread a bunch of tubes, then cut the other end for whatever lift and weld the end that the bushing goes in?
one more thing,might want to keep some quality control on the id of the tubing, because if the id veries so will the pitch diameter.weakening the threads. thtas why all the offroad fab guys use bungs,they are as consistant as the cnc lathes they are turned on.plus, then you can run 1.5 dia .120 wall dom like me. ;D

i don't know, but i bought one for jones' bronco from chuck that we're not going to use now. i'm not going to try to return it to chuck because it doesn't look new now. it needs a little cleaning up, but it hasn't been cut yet. let me know if you're interested.

I had a tap made so that I could tap that deep.
I made the threads deep so the bar can be cut down to fit all lifts
If I cut the axle end that would move the bend that is to clear the diff cover
I used the 1 3/16" .250 wall DOM for strangth and I picked the size and type for the ID.
I used the heim to remove the bind while articulating.
I have broke 2 of the other adjustable track bars there the tube and threaded adjustment shaft come together. This is a fix for the hollow tube track bars with the long 5/8" threaded shaft. The heim I use is 3/4" chromoly with the teflon liner.

Question here? Will this eliminate the need to lower the frame bracket/raise the axle bracket, or is it just to allow fine tuning of the front axle under the truck once ride height is finialized (extra weight of bumpers, winches, welders, etc.)?

Kinda,

It keeps the axle centered under the rig. When you lift it, your axle wants to pull to the drivers side. This has enough length to scoot the axle back over where it belongs. It has nothing to do with adjusting the ride height, rather you adjust your track bar (also referred to as a 'panhard' bar) to match your suspension height.

Needing to lower the frame bracket or raise the axle bracket has to do with matching the angle that the drag link is at (the link from the pitman arm to the knuckle or tie rod if that's the case). When they are not parallel, and moving in the same plane as the suspension cycles, it will force your steering to do funny things. It will pull your steering wheel out of your hands when the suspension compresses on one side or another. This is especially dangerous at highway speed. This anomalie is referred to as 'bump steer'

It's just to center the axle under the bronco. As soon as I can figure out how to set up a way to make it easy to tell people how the figure the correct height of the track bar raise bracket I will be selling that also. I have had it on the racer and the crawler for 2 years now and it works great.

I do understand not wanting to pay for parts. I don't either. The part I don't understand is how giving you parts would hurt my business. I have seen the pictures of your EB way up in the air. I don't think there is a lot of EBs that can do that. It is easy to make them go fast but not so easy to make them fly and/or land right.

It's a good looking part, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the bracket. I've seen pictures of the racer, so I'm sure the track bar is tough enough for me.

I'm sorry, I meant when the ride height is finialized (when all the heavy accessories are added) is adjustment on the track bar meant to center the front end back under the truck?

heim hole?

So does the upper heim use the same bolt size as the stock? Do you use a spacer or a bigger bolt(and drill the upper mount)? I have a 3/4" heim in my hand and the spacer from the stock rubber mount fits nice in the heim hole. This makes me think to use the old bolt but what does Chuck recommend?
