While dismantling more of the 68 today I found this tag under the top portion of the vent assembly on the passenger side.

Sorry, more questions. Has it been painted over? Both sides? Possibly your original color? I have a reason for asking...

Painted only on the top side with obvious overspray on the bottom. It's an aluminum tag. That shiny strip in the corner above the word ROOF shows the metal underneath. It wasn't attached but the wire where it was is still there and has some original blue color on it too.

Here's the reason I'm asking. My '68 had a tag much like yours. How much I don't know because I don't have that truck anymore. Mine was aluminum, original paint on the backside, riveted in where the passenger side defroster vent is (I notice yours has the rivet holes). The front had a Ford logo, my vin, and looked to be very original to me. But who knows. I know of one other '68 with this tag and now you make three. Maybe someday we'll know the story.

I found the same thing on my 73 sport, it is painted the same original color as the body. My was attached with wire, I've always wondered about it. Glad to know I'm not alone in this.

are the numbers on it the paint codes and it looks like it has the u150 for the body style too
maybe it is somehting to do with the body alone and not the running gear

Now were up to four. Feitctaj is the other one I know of. His is riveted in, and also has his original color on the back. The front faces outward so it can be seen from outside the vehicle but not well. When the opportunity arrises I'll convince him to fold down the ws frame and snap a pic.

I belive that is what is called the "body buck tag" My therory is after the body was assembled it needed a serial # and paint code. A grease pencil or piece of paper was not going to last. Then it could go thru the paint dept. At that step there were no frame or glove box yet. Then it would meet up with a frame and dash board on the assembly line.

Yep it's a body buck tag. They are used in the assembly of the vehicle. Still in use today. I've found them on truck bed, cabs, core supports, under fenders, on the cowl. Some are riveted while most are stapled or have a single screw in them to hold them on.
