I am seriously looking at doing an aod swap sometime soon(next 6-8 months) and I already have the column shift on my bronco for the c4... can I modify the old c4 culumn shifter to work with an aod?

I was looking on broncofix and I saw a guy get the shift handle off of a newer vehicle(bronco f-1-2-3) and use this on an older f truck column... not sure how it wasnt that detailed so if anyone knows just chime in

I did one where there was no column modification necessary but we had to get a transmission shift lever from a 1986 F-150 and modify it. We needed to cut and weld it, changed the length and the angle. We kept clamping the 2 pieces together with a small pair of vise-grips(R) until we found a configuration that worked. Then we welded it. It turned out perfect with all the detents in the correct location.

Now I get to start this over again. Lost the first post. The aod only has 3 shift positons so I don't see why it wouldn't work. An alternative is to go with a modified valve body that controls 2nd gear. From the shifter you can shift 1,2,3 and then electric od. I have this setup on a floor shifter that orginally controlled a C4 and it doesn't know the difference. If you're interested here's the link (if I don't screw it up again ;D )

I did it!!! Seriously, I love being able to rock crawl with control of second gear. There are those who'll tell you that you can control second gear by shifting from 1st to 3rd, then after it shifts into 2nd pull the shifter back into 1st. Yes, this works, but anytime you get low enough speed the trans will automaticly shift back into 1st by itself. In my case with 5.13s the down shift is sudden and the vehicle stops for a split second. Seat belts are required during this down shift or the windshield could be kissed. I always notify the wife in order to prevent a reverse whiplash.
In any case, if you go with an aod have super coupe 1st and 2nd gears put in. Much better ratios. 2.84 vs oem 2.48 and 2nd's 1.55 vs ???
Good luck
