WE just installed power steering on my running buddy 1966 I6 and it has worked great since he used a bronco gear box and a SAG pump ..It is one finger steering and we just got home from a hunting trip in New Mexico we put about 25 miles a day on it in 4x4 and in the rock and gullys not one problem ..so go for it ....It didnt seems to rob one drop of power from the six

The hydroboost systems do not add any additional load to the PS pump. H-boost is a parasitic pressure device only and uses practically zero flow..maybe an ounce or two of fluid for every push of the brake pedal.

I have power steering on my I6. BCB's bracket, napa upgrade pump, and a converted 78-79 4x4 ps box. I run fullwidth axles and 37's with no problems. I like it. :)

I run power steering and hydroboost on my six.

I used a stock power steering box.
Hydroboost from a 93 Astro Van.
Saginaw dual return pump on the stock bracket that has new holes drilled in it.
Mount the original bracket on this bracket from BC Broncos

For the adjuster I used the alternator bracket from a v8

I didn't notice a power loss with hydro boost. Do both now. You don't want to have to come back and re-engineer this later if you decide you want power brakes.

If I was you I would just run on of the after market saginaw brackets instead of trying to make an original work. Like this.

This is good stuff guys, thanks a lot. I'm planning on the P/S and Hydroboost for my wifey's rig (a 170).

It's hers, and she makes all the decisions, but I'm not giving her the choice to not do these upgrades, they're going in no matter what. ;D

I helped broncoman with his hydroboost and disk brake conversion. It looks clean under the hood and has amazing stopping power. I drove it before and after and all i can say is, WOW! I will do the same set up on my bronco. ;D

power steering

I have a quick question on this. Where can you find the dual groove pulley for the I6? I would love to have power steering but, I have the single groove pulley. I can get the parts for the hydroboost and power steering but, no pulley. Somebody help!

I have P/S on my six. I used the parts from a junk yard 2x4 f150 (pump, box and all the hoses and a bracket from a Maverick or the like) I will get pics if you are interested. I've been running it for 10 years with no problems. I currently run 31 10.50's and a stupid small aftermarket steering wheel.

I got a my water pump and crank pulleys from a maverick at the pull-a-part.

The maverick used a water pump with a longer shaft so the pulley was deeper. This left me with two options: get a new water pump that fits a maverick or find some kind of spacer to put behind the pulley. As luck would have it I just happened to have a spacer I found(along with other misc auto parts) in the back of a 77 parts bronco I bought a few months earlier.

So long as it's a healthy motor, it should make plenty of vacuum. It doesn't take much to make the booster function.

Hydroboost is even better, if you search here, you'll find a goldmine of information on them here. With your new P/S setup, it's just a couple of hoses to make the hydroboost work for you.

Here are some pics of my setup for someone that was wondering. I modded a stock pump bracket and mounted to the BC Broncos bracket and used an alternator adjuster bracket from a v8 to adjust belt tension.
