My Bronco Story (Kinda Long Winded)

Good morning, I am new to this forum and the world of early broncos. Yesterday I picked up (2) '75 Broncos to build one for my dad. To be honest with you all, I am a Jeep guy, but my dad is a Ford man and really I have always been fond of these rides. If anyone wants to continue reading, it is an interesting story.

So I had scene these two Broncos in a local trading post several times and had actually called about them once about a month before going over to look at them. As I said, I am a Jeep guy and I am working on a '81 CJ7 project that is consuming a lot of my time. Anyway, I finally got over to see them on Christmas Eve. The guy said that he had driven one of them up to its current resting spot and suggested that the axles were bad. The second bronco was even farther up the hill and it supposed had the axles for the first bronco. So he & I walked up to the first one to take a look at it. Now, I had no clue what to expect, but what I saw was not bad except for some busted out windows and expected rust. It was complete with a hard top and doors. He turned the engine so it wasn't locked up and he thought it would potential start up. So we started walking back to his house because I had told him I wanted to take some pics and needed to get my camera. I asked him what he wanted for them and he said $600. I asked him if he would take less and he said that he would take $550 if if was going to happen today. So I went and got my camera and went back up to take pics of both of them. The second is definitely a parts ride no top, engine or doors. Once I finished up taking pics, I walked back down to his house to tell him I could do anything today because really they would be for my dad and I had to see what he thought. I told him I would get back to him on Tuesday. So I left.

That night I went to my dad's for a Christmas celebration. I showed him the pics and he said that he sure would love to have them, but we don't have the money to spend because of the CJ project. I told him I agreed and let it go at that.

So all day Christmas it was all I could think about. I figured that I could potentially get one running out of the deals, sell what was left and get some of my money back. And then I thought of the Father's Day gift idea. Dad has always been a Ford man and I was born in 1975 so it seemed perfect. I decided to get them, if they hadn't gotten gone already.

So the day after Christmas, I went back to the fellows house to examine them one more time. I had a plan for negotiation. I didn't want to spend more than $500 for them. So when I got there, I told him that I wanted to go check them out again and he said ok. After walking up there to look at them one more time and coming back down I made him an offer. I said "would you take $450" and he said " no, no, no I can't take that much, I'd take $550" So I just stood there looking at him not saying anything. I used to sell cars for a living and my managers there always said the first person to talk loses. So he started talking about how he knew they were worth more and if he had ebay he could sell the stuff on there. So I said "I have $500 dollars cash that I can give you right now" and he said "cash money?" I said yes, he said "hundred dollar bills" and I said "I think there's one in there" anyway, you get the idea, I bought them for $500. Which now I think is a good deal.

So yesterday I went to pick them up. Here they are:

Now I don't know much about Broncos. I am planning to put a BB 9" in my CJ that came out of a late 60s truck so I do know a little about 9". The rear of the parts Bronco appears to be a BB 9", is this rare? I will take some pics of it later to illustrate. As soon as you all see the pics maybe you can help me identify what I have.

Thanks for reading,

Charles

The BB 9" is not a rare find in a later model EB. In fact most of them have them.

Great story and great deal. Did you get titles on both? From the pics the rust does not look too bad on either one. Where are you located? It's great that you are fixing one up for your dad. With whats left of the 2nd you may have a good start on an awesome trail rig for yourself!

Flash69 cool, once I get this thing operational, we will have to catch up and go for a trail ride. I grew up in Richlands and moved up here in 89.

I graduated from Christiansburg in 1993

Sometimes I wish I hadn't had to leave Richlands. I was in Claypool Hill over the holidays.

Father's Day Update

Well, yesterday I showed my dad his new toy and he was a bit overwhelmed. It is a very exciting time. I didn't have much time to work on the Bronco. So we are going to tow it out to his place soon so we can get started.

BTW - nice find on those Broncos. That is a great price.

Sounds like an awesome project for you and your Dad. And like the others have said already, the second Bronco might make a great trail rig. Good Luck!

Good son, And great find. I also use to be a Jeep Guy:-X When i was in High School, I had one darn good looking Renagade. 318, 3 speed. But after rebuilding the 318 twice, and the Worthless 3 speed, that was never right. And then seeing my first EB, i was done with the hole jeep thing
Good luck with your build, the guys on here really know there stuff.
