1971 Passenger side door won’t open

I removed the interior door panel and pulled on the steel rods and the door wouldn’t disengage. Thoughts?

There is a barrel nut on one of those rods that may need adjustment. I had this problem a few years ago.

If you simply want to get the door open, if you contort your arm down into the door to the point where you can feel the latch, there's a little release lever you can push that will open the door even if it's locked. Get it open, then figure out what needs to be adjusted to get it to work correctly (which is no easy task in my experience)
