Do you guys know what color wire is the 12v headlight “on” wire? Also, is there a separate wire for the 12v on and the dimmer function? I am installing a DLG1 AFR gauge and also want to hook up the light function on my tach. I wish the original Ford shop manuals had all this.

I would just splice it in with one of the lights for the speedometer cluster.

...and yes, the dimmer for the dash lights is a separate wire. It's blue/red for 1970+ year models.

What color is the 12v on (non-dimmer)for 1969? I may try to search @Steve83 database tonight.

Good idea on the tach. I plan to convert to the HID lights so maybe connect at that relay.

Should be the same Blue w/red stripe for the '69 I believe.
That's just for illumination/dimming of the dash lights though, so would be perfect for a tach light. But not for any other power function.

The dimmer function should work, as long as the light in the tach is not an LED. In that case, the LED would have to be a specialized type that's compatible with dimming functions. Especially with older, low-tech dimmers.
Might not do anything otherwise. Well, maybe it'll flicker a little, but it won't dim in a linear way like we'd hope.

As an aside, the illumination circuit is the only light circuit with it's own fuse. Power comes from the headlight switch, into the small fuse in the panel, then out to the lights.
