Ford sent out an email yesterday announcing the big reveal of the F-150 LIGHTNING on May 19 at 9:30 EDT. What is this world coming too?

Ford knows they are losing market share. The new hummer line is pre selling really well and the hype around Rivian is huge. I think a 300-400 mile range electric bronco would be pretty epic, launching a half baked version would be stupid though.

I am just frustrated with all these walk-around vids and "spotted" posts online. My family and I are slowly crawling toward replacing two vehicles and the fact that the NB is not out yet is going to make me jump over to getting a new 4Runner and some other Japanese car. Plus, in all honesty...and I am ok ruffling feathers, newer vehicles, regardless if it's a V8 or V6, should be giving out better MPGs.

I own a 2019 TRD 4runner and it gets 18 mpg. It's also a gutless, super fail.

But none of my toyotas ever break so it's a trade off.

The electric F150 is a good thing not sure about the name. Come on lightning is a loud fast truck not an electric. But I get it instant name recognition, electric blah blah. The electric car/truck market is here to stay and with this pipeline issue it is even more attractive to a lot of people.

The range is my big issue. They say 300-400 miles but what if you are towing? My super duty goes about 480-520 miles empty and 390-450 towing. Can these electrics do that? If I have a 3-4 hour drive towing my boat will I have to stop at 2.5 hours and charge the truck so I can make it the rest of the trip? I cant jump on this band wagon yet.

I hear you guys about the spy shots and teaser vids of all these new vehicles that you cant get yet. My wifes Expedition is getting high on miles and we really dont need such a big truck anymore. But we dont like the explorer, the new bronco sport is too small. I would love a new Bronco but thats a hole other story. I have been looking at the 4 runner but I have seen mixed reviews. Guess I will just keep the Expedition until something better comes along or I need to start dumping money into it.

I would be much more likely to buy a hybrid than just an electric vehicle. Hate the looks of the Prius but the tech with a bigger battery would be ideal. Ability to charge fully but the gas backup. Could you imagine super celebration with 500 Broncos needing to charge....

I've heard hints of Ford producing a gas Bronco %)

I would buy an electric anything, when it's the only option left.

Yikes. That there is even more of a reason to stay with gas. Always hated the idea of recharge time of long trips in an electric vehicle. Can’t even begin to think situations like hurricane evacs or rolling blackouts when needing a charge.

Even if voltages are upped to 800 or higher and charge times are under 15 minutes, that's useless to add "range" out on a long weekend wheeling in the middle of nowhere. A trip where you would have brought extra fuel to begin with.

Can you buy an electric bronco today? No.

I can walk into any Jeep dealer and drive off with a plug in Wrangler Rubicon. OK, maybe not any dealer, but they are on the street today, not in years. Only has 50 mile range full electric, but think about it, thats anyone's daily commute. And would be a great add on for slow even torque on a trail.

Ford has really fallen on it's face rolling out the Bronco, and electrics in general.

My 2020 Ram 1500 is a semi hybrid with a 140 ft/lb-HP electric 48 volt motor system tied into the 5.7 Hemi. Mopar already claims this won't be an option in two years because the hybrids will be true plug ins. More proof Ford fumbled? Ford is bringing back a real v8 in the Raptor. Look I'm a Blu oval guy through and through, but my last Ford is probably a 1973 EB. My next and last vehicle when I'm done using the 1500 for loads will probably be the diesel or plug in hybrid Wrangler Rubicon. It just works. That is success.

Same, I have never been a fan of e-vehicles. I'm fine running a car powered by gas.

The new Bronco gets just a little better mpg than my stock '73.
But the tank is so small on the '21 that the range is worse, at 290 miles. %)
An EV would have better range. lol
