My 73 has all the ranger options with a Sport Badge on drivers front quarter.
Can't find anything in vin that would id which package. Been calling it a Sport with Ranger option package. Correct?

Without seeing the VIN that sounds right. The 1974 Sales Brochure states that the Ranger Package is in addition to or in place of the Sport Package.

Rangers did not normally come with Sport badges. I have heard of a few examples but it was not typical. Sometimes people added them and other times there is no real explanation for it. I have never seen it pictured in any Ford literature. Some old threads on here mention it.

I agree with slow leak, all the rangers I have seen have had the sport badges added as most don't know the ranger when they see one and like the extra bling.

Still not sure. My 73 was built in Nov.72. Has T Shifter which was on the early 73's.
My grandfather bought it new in Dec.72 and gave it to my cousin in 79 then I got it in 2016.
Neither one of them added badges. Sport only on driver side and no Ranger badge on glove box,but definitely a ranger. Thinking maybe sport badge is overlap like t shifter since ranger was introduced late in 72.

I don't know for sure what variation of the 74 they did. I don/t think Ford would know for sure. Look at how many different Bronco Logos they have used over the years. Somehow the Mustang kept the same horse and the same font but Bronco not so much. Heck they couldn't even put out the new Bronco without screwing up they the font they used in Bronco. They had the font of Bronco two different ways before they did the release.

The Sales Brochure indicates Ranger can be in addition to the Sport, but who really knows. Have you payed requesrted the Martini Report? You can also write Ford directly.

The brochure is simply saying a Ranger had all the options of a Sport with some additional ones. That's normal for car companies to describe trim levels as having all the options of the trim level below it. A Ranger is just a base Bronco with a Ranger package, not a Sport with a Ranger package added, so it would not typically have a “Sport” badge. Sports got fender badges, Rangers got a glove box badge.

I have seen some early rangers with T shifters and no badge on glove box.I don't think there was ever a ranger sport or sport ranger they were 2 different trim levels. It is possible that someone on the line put the wrong badge on or it was replaced at some point maybe even at the dealer before it was sold.I see a lot of people put them on non sport broncos but it's not correct. They do look nice though!Just my 2 cents;D

Horrible verbiage by Ford but makes sense the way you put it. Thanks for the input.

Will get a Marti some day. All I know now is what's in the garage. I know nothing has been changed or added.
Thanks everyone for your input. For now it remains a mystery.

Some of the early Rangers had T-shifts and no emblem on the glove box door. Mine was built 9/27/1972 and is titled as a '72. The Marti report does not show a Ranger package, but the interior is listed as I4 - Avocado Sport bucket seats and rear seat. Of course Sport seats were always parchment. The avocado interior color was only available in 73 & 74. It also came with factory power steering. It's one of the “P's and Q's” vin number trucks that should have been a '73 (and does not show in the VIN range for either year), but for unknown reasons was held back but sold as a 1972.

First 2 pics are from when the PO bought it. Wish they had never repainted the exterior, would have been an awesome survivor. The interior is still original paint - dash is body color, like all Rangers.

Reading a bcbroncos.com Bronco history article in 1970 the Sport became a model not option package. Ranger became an option in mid 72.

Sport wasn't a model, that article needs to be deleted or corrected at least, it's caused a lot of confusion over the years. U13, u14 and u15 were the three models.
