Rusted front fenders are they salvageable?

I have those two front fenders that have heavy surface rust
It will take some serious blasting to clean them...
Just wondering when is it to thin or bad to save?

Hate to say it but... They're probably not useful after media blasting with that amount of heavy surface rust. If you really have your heart set on using them, dustless blasting may be the way yo go and possibly won't warp them... I'm not a media blasting expert, but had a hood and fenders blasted with fine media and the blasting company warped the parts. Good luck...

Take into account the OP is in Iceland. I would imagine shipping for the repops would probably be more than the repops themselves.

I think I would try building an electrolysis tank for them before I would try any type blasting for them. But I have never researched using electrolysis for sheet metal, that may not be a viable option either.

@Geiri, if you’re wanting to save $$ and have the time, hand sanding is certainly a possibility. Yeah, it’s a pain in the butt; however, if it’s 1) just surface rust and 2) not rotten it won’t be all that bad to do. Heck, not having to pay for new sheet metal (and the shipping cost) would make me consider the hand sanding.

Either manually sand or use a random orbital sander. Do NOT use an angle grinder with flap disc as it gets the metal to hot and can cause the sheet metal to warp.
