Didn’t see it mentioned yet, but whatever you do, don’t lose that engine calibration decal on the passenger valve cover!
Don’t “clean it up“ so well that you destroy the decal. Like most of us have done over the years!
Or at the very least take a couple of really good accurate high resolution shots so you can have somebody reproduce the decal if you ever need to.
Of course, if you’re gonna just change valve covers to something aftermarket anyway, it probably won’t matter. But those decals have taken on more importance in recent year restorations than they used to have for us.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, I already started degreasing and probably took most of the writing off with it.

Today was all about electrical. I’m still waiting on the new coil to arrive so I went and started troubleshooting wiring under the dash. Years of sitting has taken its toll on a few switches. I had to order in a brake switch, ignition switch, and a headlight switch.

I did end up wiring up the column and have a good diagram if anyone needs it

Our intern/mentor program helper conditioned the seats and cleaned up some of the stickers on the windshield.

We also mocked up the rear seat and installed a mesh sun shade.

After nearly 10 long years, I’ve got Bronco number six!
I didn’t realize how much I missed the community, camaraderie, and friendship at this place brings.

I was able to purchase this one from fatboy and I plan on getting it running and driving very soon. I suppose this makes me the village idiot now.

Here are a couple of pictures, I’ll update this thread as I make progress.

Special thanks to tasker for helping me get back into the Bronco world.

Another day of more testing.
I ended up ordering just about every piece for the ignition and the charging system. New starter, solenoids, etc. I’m in this far. I might as well go for it!

Got the manual choke installed too plus a lot more cleaning done.

Also ordered some vacuum hoses and other miscellaneous wiring to clean up a bunch of stuff and just start replacing parts.

End goal is completely reliable transportation that works like new underneath. I plan on making the interior very nice, keeping the exterior in its current condition.

Today was good progress.
Replaced a bunch of old wires and cleaned up connections
Installed the new headlight switch, which turned out to be bad
Installed a new brake switch
Fixed a fault on one of the turn signal light sockets
Mounted the high beam switch
Did some cleaning up of the gas tank filler and tried to figure out some of the wiring for the sending unit

New ignition and tumbler today.
Got most of the cage bolted down
Finished up the gas tank wiring and put a couple gallons in
Replaced some vacuum lines
New oil cap and breather
Cleaned up some of the bumpers with a little elbow grease and some WD-40

Also mocked up an old winch I had laying around - what are you guys think?

Once the new starter comes in, I’ll get that installed and we should be ready to fire it up!

Another big day!
My starter is arriving later than expected so I shifted gears and knocked out a few smaller projects

Horns mounted
Battery tray mounted
New voltage regulator installed
Mocked up the old Kayline soft top
Sourced some new to me vacuum wipers
And ordered a plethora of more stuff!

Next, I focused on some of the body. My goal is to preserve as much of the steel as possible. There are plenty of dings and chips and rust bubbles so here’s my process of preserving some of this patina:

I scraped away as much of the rust bubbles as reasonably possible without going too crazy. I have to remember that I want this to look old and crusty on the outside! After that, I brushed away most of the loose scale and ground down big areas of rust, leaving most of it intact. I just wanted to get all the loose stuff off.

Once I was happy with that, I wiped everything down with alcohol and then applied a layer of phosphoric acid. For those who are not familiar, this will convert the rust from iron oxide to iron phosphate, turning it black and preventing it from rusting further chemically. I also treated most of the dog house as well as inside the engine bay.

Tomorrow when I get back at it, everything should have converted and will be ready for paint protectant. I plan on wiping on some penetrol annually to create a layer of protection over the existing paint and patina.

I’m still on the hunt for a set of doors, although I may end up just keeping the inserts and trying to figure out how to get them to better match my paint scheme. Open to ideas!

Lastly, I can’t say enough about how stout these rockers are! @migs these are sweet!

Still waiting on the starter, which should be here tomorrow.

Today I purchased a new Tuffy glove box which I just realized needs of the cage to be removed in order to be installed so the cage is gonna come back out tomorrow. Fun.

I also plan on bleeding the brakes. once I can get the bleeder screws to release. Everything is got slight coat of corrosion on it from sitting so long. So little by little I’m cleaning that stuff off too.

Had some downtime so I ended up repairing some of the rhino liner inside the tub

Got the rear seat installed

Fixed some more electrical gremlins so now my lights are working for the most part. Still have some issues to sort out there.

I think I’m just about ready to fire it up once the starter arrives. I did pull the old starter out, which was a lot of fun.

Tons of more progress today!

The starter came in, but I still don’t have any spark. I’m gonna start a different thread in the tech section on that.

Adjusted the tailgate and made some small patina upgrades to the ford letters

New steering wheel is going in

New battery

Bunch of new wiring

And most importantly, new headlights!
