She runs!
Not for long and lots of leaks, but we actually have a strong running motor!!!

There were nests in both tailpipes which blew out tons of acorns and all sorts of junk, which was pretty funny

I also have a leaking accelerator pump diaphragm on the carb and no fuel from the gas tank so it looks like a new pump is in order.

Replacing more heater hose as well.

Sounds good though

Sounds real good

If we keep on progressing, we should be driving in a week or so

* fire extinguisher in picture not by accident!!

Not much to report today. Replaced the diaphragm on the accelerator pump.

Messed around with the gas pedal a bit, what a pain that is. I’ll hold off on that for another day.

Started to disassemble the fuel pump. That one’s another fun job.

Once I get past the fuel pump, I should be able to start it reliably.

Then we have to bleed brakes and check the rest of the drive train. After that, it should move under its own power.

Getting closer!

I have a really nice vacuum bleeding kit. The problem is these are seized and I need to heat them up to crack the bleeders so I’ve just got them soaking in penetrating oil now.

Brakes have been bled.
New fuel pump installed
I am still not getting any fuel through the line though. Cleaned the fuel lines tested them for leaks, etc. I just can’t seem to prime this pump. I fought with it for hours.

Ran off of a small bottle of gas for a while and realized the transmission linkage is certainly not correct.

That’s all for today!

It’s been sitting, make sure the pickup tube in the tank is not plugged up. I see that often. If it is often it needs removed and cleaned out with a wire, it can be dense and hard to remove.

It’s a new tank but something certainly seems clogged in there. Even tried creating a vacuum in the tank to push the fluid out and can barely get a trickle. Somethings up.

This thing has been fighting me every step of the way

I think I had a case of the "Ethanols" going on in mine. It seemed to eat up either the plastic hardline or the inside of the rubber connector lines.

Pete put new fuel line in it. I replaced the parts that were rubber.

The line itself is clear and flows freely.

I’m just not getting suction. I have about 7 gallons of gas in it, maybe I just need to put another 5 gallons in and give it a better chance.

Not too much to report. I have to get a new carb or rebuild this one. Everything is just old and tired from sitting.

I didn’t expect to have to replace so much on this truck. It’s been a really good learning experience though. things I had taken for granted in the past now I’m learning how they operate and how to fix them. grateful for that.

I did manage to get in a little bit of bling.

Pete had the coolest steering wheel on this thing
It was his since he was 14 years old so I didn’t have the heart to keep it on him. Replaced it with something that is kind of similar and one that is close to a steering wheel I had on my previous 68.

At this point, I’m just glad to be putting everything new on it so it should be as reliable as possible.

Got the glove box installed. Had to remove the cage to do so. I don’t know why Tuffy doesn’t make the glove box a two-piece design so you don’t have to remove the cage to put it in.

Put on my new carburetor only to find out that had a leak at the accelerator pump. I’m baffled. I may just end a rebuilding the original car and putting that back on.

Also removed the roadster inserts only to find more rust than I was hoping. Looks like I’m not going to be putting hard doors on, my strikers are pretty toast.

One step forward, 10 steps back.
Cosmetic stuff seems to be going together great. Mechanical stuff fighting me every step of the way.

I'm having flashbacks of my current project here... Keep after it a little at a time. If you can get it to a point where you can drive it around a bit DO IT. Keep that motivation then get back after the upgrades. Pretty sure we all feel your pain.
