Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

Sweet, they are expensive! That helps appreciate it.

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

Do roller lifters have to be replaced when replacing the cam like with a flat tappet? Lunati is the only company I see that makes a roller cam kit that isn't retro fit.

Nah, doesn't really get cold enough here for that. All six are replaced. One probably rotted out so they replaced them all? Coolant passages look a little gross like perhaps they neglected the antifreeze. Water pump has been replaced now that I look closer and see silicone coming out in some...

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

This is how the wrecking yard sold it to me. They charged me for a short block and I told them three times I didn't need the heads. Spark plugs have been changed at some point, they are black but the gap was good. I don't see excessive silicone around the water pump or timing cover so I don't...

Thanks Tim, good info!! I pass through Conway often on my way to Greenbrier. We should get together some time.

Thanks, I think so too. Bought a 351 roller cam engine today. Went to my local wrecking yard and purchased a 5.8L short block from a 95 E150. I'll post up pictures later but we're back in business. I'll machine these GT40P heads to fit it since I already own them and they flow decent.

It's 2018, and that means the Ranger is coming then the Bronco

With the Ranger debuting this year, could we get a glimpse of what could be to come with the Bronco? NAIAS is Jan 13-28th and may hold some details. Hopefully Ford will make another plug for the Bronco.

    35x12.5R15

Cooper Discoverer STT Pro, Mickey Thompson MTZ and Claw come in 35x12.50x15. That would be my choices. I'm a fan of the STT Pro.

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

Strike two for me guys, the 5.0 99 Explorer engine needs a rebuild after pulling the heads. The 1,2, and 5 cylinders are rusted. I suspected a problem when I tried to turn the engine over and it was stuck. I pulled the #5 spark plug and it had rust on it... then after pulling the heads...

    Which Intake?

My old Bronco with a 351W had a Weiland Stealth intake and stock manifolds. Lots of reviews on the Weiland Stealth intake discuss poor casting now... I have been doing my research because I wanted a Weiland over the Edelbrock Performer. Not sure if Weiland is made over seas now but there are...

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

I have two 302s laying dormant in Jak's Restoration shop. One is a 99 5.0 with GT40P heads that needs to get used. No hating if this turns into a SBF rebuild. After Christmas I will call the machine shop where the 351 bored .060 over is and tell him to halt work on it. I think all he has done is...

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

Thank you sir, appreciate the wise words. I guess the confusing part is I've also had several knowledgeable people tell me the .060 bore is fine, run it. They are not on this site so the comments above won't reflect it. Going to get another block, disaster averted.

Really need to be conservative with this build and get my first rebuild under my belt before even thinking about a stroker. Sticking with a stock bottom end on it. No plans to race or do anything fancy other than turn big tires.

I agree with both comments above Donk and Tim on it being risky going .06 and possible overheating. I'll have a new radiator to help with that and a few other measures.

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

I asked about .04 and the bores need to go .06 because of the wear. Crank has already been ground on once before and needs more grinding this time to make it right. It will be too much. Thought about grabbing another complete 351 but this is a slow build for me to learn on. I don't mind taking...

Hey Ken, just ordered your C4 video. Ordered your C6 and Ford 9" a few years ago.

Is There a 351W Rebuild DVD? An engine build thread

I'm making this my engine build thread and edited the title to reflect so. Took the block, crank, and pistons to the machine shop yesterday. The block will have to be bored .060 over since it's already .030. The crankshaft is no good, it will need to be replaced. This is my first engine build...

Bought the book and it arrived yesterday. It's excellent from what I've seen so far.
