Pretty sure '76 door latches/lock placement are not the same as '66 doors. Don't think the windshield attachment holes on a '66 match up to a '76 top either.

Have you thought of swapping the valve covers with your other set and seeing if the problem still exists doing a similar drive???

I see you bought the "knock off" version. The Toyota version is over $200 I think. I have one on my Tacoma and it works great getting in and out of the bed. Bought a similar one for my son's '21 Ranger PU....he already has a bad hip (HS soccer) and a bad knee (skiing). I think his is Rugged...
