Replacing C4 pan gasket torque spec question

FYI, I checked the manual and it explains how to add fluid until it registers on the tip of the dip-stick. It says in most cases this is 4 to 5 pints. Once it registers on the tip I can safely start the engine, idle for 2 minutes, then foot on the brake I shift thru the gears, then repeat the...

Replacing C4 pan gasket torque spec question

How many quarts of fluid should I add before I can start the engine? I've added 3 quarts so far. I don't know if it's safe to start the truck yet. Of course I can't test with the dip-stick unless the engine is hot, and yet I don't want to over fill with too much either.

Replacing C4 pan gasket torque spec question

Yeah, always a possibility. Mine is in inch pounds, which I calculated to ft pounds. I used the Inch pounds mark at 115 plus the 5 mark on the ring, which should total 120 inch pounds, which should convert to 10 ft pounds.

Replacing C4 pan gasket torque spec question

Thanks Slowleak, and everyone else, I really appreciate all of the support. I did get my gasket from WH, but I don't know if it's their high dollar one. We'll see how it goes :)

Replacing C4 pan gasket torque spec question

I am installing the new cork gasket on my C4 pan. My Hayes manual says torque the bolts 12 to 16 ft lbs. I have my set at 10 ft lbs to start as this was suggested by the few YouTube videos I watched. The problem I'm having is my cork gasket is starting to squeeze out all around, and I...

Will this C4 pan fit my bronco?

Okay will do, thanks for the tips. I was definitely gonna straighten the rim before reassembly. BTW, are there instructions with he pan reinforcement steel? That is, what order do they go? Rim, then steel, then gasket, then tranny?

Will this C4 pan fit my bronco?

Thanks Bajabrewer, yes the pan is leaking around the rim/bolts. This looks like a great solution.

Will this C4 pan fit my bronco?

Finally getting around to replacing my leaking C4 pan. I happened to order the wrong pan at first, neglected to order one with a pickup tube for the dipstick. I'm looking at the following one from one of our vendors (link below), however it doesn't say it fits my bronco. I emailed the vendor...

    C4 leak possible overfill?

Just a quick update: The new gasket and filter arrived. I took the bronco for a drive, making sure to move through all of the gears to bring the engine/tranny up to HOT temps. With the engine running I added ATF until the dipstick read full; this time making sure the bronco was parked on a...

What have you done to your Bronco today?

Last day of High School tradition, my grandson always gets to drive the bronco to school. He and his best friend took pics with the trucks at the local campground. That's a 71 Blazer along with my 76 Bronco; which my gs hopes to inherit someday.

    C4 leak possible overfill?

Thanks Viper, I just finished watching a few install videos for the gasket, and definitely see how the gasket is supposed to be clean edged along the pan, not squished out. I thought this video here showed a good demo. He did use a small amount of ultra black sealant, though it was a...

    C4 leak possible overfill?

Okay great, thanks for the info. I do have a temp gauge, if you mean an infrared temp gun. I have the stock/original dip stick too.

    C4 leak possible overfill?

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. Maybe take if for a little spin. So when the stick says, "HOT" before checking fluid, how long should I let it idle? Or does it require a bit of driving to get "hot"?

    C4 leak possible overfill?

24 hours after power wash, here is where I see the drips. I'm gonna say the gasket needs replacing. Let me know if you guys think I can still drive the bronco while keeping an eye on the ATF level? I'm going to order the gasket, but it's tradition on the last day of high school since...
