Have you tried this recently? I just tried with an Iphone 6 I have without a plan (was verizon). It works fine if it is on WiFi with regular find my Iphone and lost mode. Neither of them are working for me without a WiFi connection. I am stuck at "Lost mode pending".

I agree many words change meaning as common usage changes. I usually don't explain my posts to any great degree online as I usually like to stay out of back and forth discussions that go nowhere. The point I was trying to make is the original usage of the term first world didn't mean Europe.
