302 parts from 3 teardowns I did below getting the Explorer 5.0 Engine blocks 71, 76, 78, Crankshaft, heads, 2V intake manifolds (1 aluminum), piston and rods. Other parts available for small dollar Local pickup only.

Will the Explorer 4R70W starter fit on a C4 and 5.0 combination, or did I just have the wrong starter rebuilt?

Remind me, do I need to hinge forward the windshield to remove the dash? I need to install new wiring harness and want to evaluate effort to remove the dash vs. time spent standing on my head under the dash!

76_, Thanks for posting the video, gives me some inspiration to get mine done. Do you have any pictures of the throttle lever to cable connection and cable bracket setup. It looks like the cable is pulling 90 degrees off the stock explorer action. tcj.

I go to the local tranny shop that is Transtar dealer, but remans are available at all the advance-part-zone stores for around $75 for the C4. I just need to figure out which freaking one I need for my 5.0 swap! jk

Anyone need a new reman 12" small bolt pattern torque convertor or have a large bolt pattern to trade?

My original 76 flexplate is 164 tooth with 11 1/4 bolt circle, but it looks like I bought the wrong reman converter. I have FM122, that lists as 11" diameter with the 10 1/2 inch bolts. I think I need the FM112, listed as 12" @ 11 1/4 bolts. Both of these are listed as 126 spline. I just test...

Will the Explorer flexplate work with my C4 and torque converter or do I need a new flexplate or converter? BTW I am using the 5.0 engine too.

New distributors and duraspark for a '76 are available new for about $120, not a lot of money compared to the trouble of cleaning and rebuilding used.

Mark, What are you using for a gas tank? I want to reuse as much of the 97 Mountaineer fuel system as I can. I am just getting into the tear down as you can see below. Tim

Garry, I am interested in the Mass Buy (harness/PCM). I have a complete 97 Mountaineer donor for my 76. I would like to run my C4 to start, with the option to swap in the 4R70W as $$ allows for the ZF adapter and drive shafts. I have been reading cscotted's thread on his install, the help...

...it's in my driveway now!!! Now I just need to figure how much Mercury to pour into the '76.
