Walt's '66

'66 restomod in process
Year
1966
Information
Finally making headway on my frame-up restoration project.
Make
Ford
Model
Bronco
Color
will be light blue w/ almond top and grill
History
Got my early '66 half-cab out of an overgrown back yard 20 years ago. A friend gave it to me just to get rid of it. Literally dug it out - inflated the tires, brought a battery and set the points. poured some fresh gas in with the sour, cranked it up and drove it home (missing a bit). Drove it until she wouldn't go any more. Now it's being re-created into a coyote powered full cab. Not much left to the original, only frame, rear axle housing, assorted small brackets, and radius arms - body practically fell apart. It's a fun project, will be my daily driver.

Modifications

Exterior Mods
New Northeast Classic Ford Body, LED Lighting, new body trim & emblems, Electric Wipers, rear tire carrier (didn't have carrier or trim originally). Keeping an overall classic look, although not original.
Interior Mods
Vintage Air A/C, Dakota Digital RTX Gauge Cluster, Ididit Tilt Steering Column, Tom's Offroad Deerskin Seats with matched dash pad, door inserts and quarter panels, center console, stereo (need my tunes).
Drivetrain Mods
Gen II Coyote, 6R80 trans, Atlas II transfer case, Currie gears & chromoly axles in rear end, Wildwood rear disc brakes, '76 Dana '44 front axle with WH heavy duty diff cover, Yukon gears & chromoly axles, Wildwood Power Brakes, Power Steering, Centech wiring harness, High capacity fuel tank.
Suspension Mods
2.5" Wild Horses Suspension w/ Bilsteins, front & rear anti-sway bars, WH wrap-trap.
Wheels and Tires
33 x 12.50 x 15 BFG AT on accent color-matched wagon wheels
Not much left of my original Bronco, she was in really bad shape except for the frame. Learning as I go. Been getting lots of help from the guys at Wild Horses, BC Broncos, Northeast Classic Ford, Tom's Offroad, & Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. The Early Bronco Community has been great.

That a heck of a story ABOUT DRIVING IT HOME... wow .
wHAT'S THE DEAL ON THE DOORS BEING silver instead of same color as the rest of the body.
Nice Shop..

Yep, she sputtered quite a bit until I ran a couple tanks through.... The body isn't painted yet - different colors on doors and top are because the panels are delivered primed with different colors from the manufacturer - all the coatings on it will be coming off at the body shop. I still have some priming to do in way of the spot welding to preserve the body while I'm working on it (high humidity in South Louisiana). I'm pre-fitting everything and cutting all my holes, etc. before sending the body to paint. Going to set the engine in the next week or so.

Thanks on the shop - I waited a long time to build it - the Bronco was the final straw to get it done.

Chassis is done, time to set the body…need to take a better picture of the overall result, but she’s coming out nicely.
