Hard top repair

When I took the hard top off the bronco the lip that the bolts pass through to the w/shield frame is rotted out. There is no way to bolt it back down. Is there a way to repair or replace that lip or am I better off getting a new top. Other than the lip the top and glass is in great shape.

Stuck with doing metal work, unfortunately. Probably easier to work with clean metal stock - I'm not even certain whether anyone makes a patch panel.

Unless it's already black, will probably have to repaint also (or settle with primer gray for the repair) - because will require some grinding and welding and treatment of bare metal.

This all depends on how much metal has to be replaced. Have any pictures?

At the same time - start shopping for a cheap one nearby. Sometimes people even give them away - it's all about location, as they don't "ship" well.

I just recently took my hard top off and mine was the same way. I had plan to sell it for someone to use but by the looks of it, I dont know if im going to be able to sell it or not. The rest of the hard top is in great shape! I was kind of wondering the same thing...

I'd say look around, check Craigslist, etc. I sold mine for $300 (No rust and good white paint, no headliner)and had it advertised on craigslist for 3 months. Only had one offer. You can't do a lot of metal work for $300. Like backpain said....."location".

If you were in Socal I'd try it. I'm almost done with my cut down full to half cab. I like a good challenge.

I will try to grab a pic this weekend. I hate to scrap the entire top just because of the rusted lip area. I will see what is available for metal to repair. Like I said the rest of the top and tailgate is in such great shape.

Mine was the same way. I just cut out the rusted part and got a piece of sheet metal cut/bent to replace it. I welded it in and it's good as new. I had to paint mine anyway so I wasn't worried about burning the paint.

I have a new Ford repair panel. It replaces the entire front lip and mounting surface. If you can use it I have $120.00 in it. I will also have to find it, it's in the attic somewhere.
