We are about to start welding the core support for the front end of a 68 Bronco. Does anyone have any experience on how much modification one needs to do to get it to line up against the inner fender aprons?

Thanks

I put my front wheel wells, inner fender, and core support together with rivets. I used lots of clamps hold it together then drilled holes and used lots of rivets. I did not spot weld it in case I need to remove something later. I never put together a front end but it was not hard just takes time. To line up the core support to the inner fenders I put the core support edge flush with the inner fender edge, clamped them together drilled and riveted.

Before any final welding just tack/clamp the pieces together and check by hanging the fenders and grill with a few bolts. Also check to make sure your fan has clearance in the shroud.
I know it's a lot of extra work but it may save a lot of work in the long run.
The real telltale will be when you put the hood on.
Ask me how I know.

Thanks guys. I guess what I am really asking - I have pics that explain it a bit better - we needed to change the passenger inner fender but the drivers side remains original. The original core support was a bit dented so we decided to replace it. We have begun to clamp everything in place but it seems that we need to do a bit of a modification of the front fender wells to enable them to fully extend to the core support. Were only talking about 1/8 of an inch but wo the modification we cant really weld. Has everyone found there to be some modification necessary in order to move forward to the next step? I have pics to further explain if necessary. Thanks guys!

Measure twice, tack weld/clamp once, measure again. Measure straight back. crossways from the opposite side, and from the floor to the frame mount AND the top of the core (use a level on the floor AND the truck first) My body is sitting on a "frame" I built to hold it while I'm restoring it (like a rotisserie but doesn't rotate) After measuring I also mounted alignment points on the "frame". Measure everything from the firewall. Mine looked beautiful when I bought it but during disassembly I discovered it had a small hit in the front that had a cheap sloppy repair. They obviously just pulled the core out with a come-along and welded the crack in it. When I pulled the front sheet metal apart, the inner Apron on one side was also buckled. When I measured from the firewall to the core that side was off by about 1/2 inch and the frame mounting point was 3/4 inch higher on that side than the other side. I also measured the fenders and hood and checked against the core to firewall. Tack/clamp, hang the fenders/hood/grill with a few bolts like GlassPony said, and adjust accordingly. Good luck!

i screwed mine together and came back in with the welder. Weld through primer between the surfaces. weld, scuff, seal, seam sealer, paint.
