Shelton Manufacturing V-8 Exhaust Systems

Shelton Manufacturing has had the 6 cylinder exhaust systems available for a little while, but now Lance has stepped it up a notch and has the V-8 systems also available. This exhaust is as close to the original layout as possible using NOS components and original pipe as patterns. The system is like the original with the front exhaust pipe in a Y configuration, muffler like original and the standard tailpipe (not the optional 'reduced noise exhaust').

The kit is complete from the manifolds back: Exhaust donuts, exhaust pipe, muffler, tailpipe, hangers (like original), and U bolt clamps. The system is easily installed and is top quality! We just installed the system on 'Rattler', a '72 302. It has a 2" suspension lift and the front driveshaft does clear the left cross-over when it is on the lift (with the suspension completely relaxed).

I'm certain that the factory skid plate will work with the exhaust and we are planning on installing it to make sure that there is no interference. The sound is nice and quiet with just enough sound to know that it a V-8: It sounds just like the original exhaust to me! Here's a few pictures and I'll post more when we get the skid plate and the front drive shaft installed.

Looks great Dennis, I know a little red 69 that could use a nice exhaust system

Yes. This system is very close to the original dimensions, which is unlike the other 'kits' out there. The muffler is not right against the floor to help with the heat inside, but its not low enough to loose it in a rut! (Not saying you are going to wheel the cool '69, Chad!)... I don't think and exhaust shop would make a system as nice and as close to original as this one is.

You think it might could work for a 351W? with a 2.5 sup. lift?

Probably not... The 351 would be wider so the Y-pipe wouldn't fit on the exhaust manifolds. It probably would with a slight mod though... Just not a direct bolt on.

I'm sure Ben Brown could weld it up for ya though!!

Looks good, I like it. That is the same muffler I am running on my 76, it is nice and quiet.

Do you have a photo that includes a front drive shaft? My memory of the OE system put the cross over just a couple inches under the front drive shaft at full suspension extension. A 351 swap moved these parts closer. Another potential problem was the first bend on the passenger side pipe that comes closer to the fire wall with a 351. The added width of the 351 turned out to be no problem, with the OE manifolds. The slip joint under the transmission is deep enough to create the needed width.

Lance is still tweaking the system for the perfect fit, but here's some pictures with the muffler rotated 180 degrees (I had it upside down in the earlier pictures), the front drive shaft installed and the skid plate installed.

You can see that the pipes clear all those components and the Bronco has a 2.5" suspension lift and the suspension is completely relaxed on the lift. The front shaft is close, but no contact. (It is one of the small diameter Dana shafts). The Y pipes clears the skid plate also!

The fried lubricant on the pipes is from the transmission. Yes, it is leaking dope out the shifter shafts and making a mess. It has three shifters instead of two like a 3 speed. It's a toploader 4 speed..(Another project.....)

Yes, snipi. The tires are good. (They have less than 200 miles on them) They are probably a little louder than I thought, but they are a pretty aggressive tread. The theme for this Bronco is 'retro'. That's why it has early wagon wheels (Made in 1976) and the white letters turned out.
