170 three on tree swap for a 302 auto

I have the 170 inline 6 with the three speed on the column in my 66 Bronco, but my buddy is selling a 91 f150 with 130k miles on a good running 302 with auto trans for a good price. Thinking about buying the truck anyway, but what would it take to put motor and auto trans from f150 into the bronco. I assume since many bronco's have 302's room won't be a factor, and since motor and trans are working together now, can I just redo the mounts and hook it up to my drive shaft? I assume the auto tranny is bigger. Anything else I could reuse? power steering? Axles or disk brakes? Radiator? Is it insane to think that I could get the 302 and auto trans in the bronco for around a grand?

You have to get an adapter for the truck automatic to the bronco dana 20:

And round up a mustang or explorer upper as the truck one is to tall and then use this adapter to adapt it to your truck lower intake.

Then you will need to get the wiring harness for the motor/trans and send it to someone like EFIguy on here to make it where you just need to run a key hot, start hot, ground, and constant hot for the relays. He charges about 600 bucks, it may be way cheaper since that is not and electronic controlled transmission and he will not need to mess with your computer. So that puts you at way over your budget and expect to need about $1000 worth of other crap like shifters, needing a different gear ratio for the overdrive, exhaust, and other junk.

Its not insane to think you can get a 302 and transmission for a grand. But what is insane is thinking it will just swap into a bronco. Going to cost a whole lot more than a grand to swap it in. As was said at the very least it will cost another grand but probably closer to 2 more grand when all is said and done.
As was said you have adapt the t case, will need a V8 radiator and shroud that fits a bronco, the truck EFI is ill suited for swapping it can be done but its not really worth the hassel. Then of course you'll need new motor towers and probably a new rear crossmember along with the exhuast and probably a few other unknowns. it all adds up Depending on which direction you go.
Theres really little that directly swaps form a 91 F150 to a bronco so in the end other than just getting a engine I dont see it really being worth the effort.

Thanks guys. Forgive my ignorance I knew I'd need an adapter to get to the Dana. Assumed I could probably just reuse the radiator and exhaust in the F150( not clear why I can't). I didn't think about wiring. Sounds like my dreams of having a v8 with auto transmission and power steering are still good ways off :(

Few radiators from other vehicles will fit a bronco and the F150 radiator is not one of them its just to big. Exhuast could be made to work its not a direct fit by any means.

Unfortunetly not much is cheap when dealing with a bronco. I'd suggest you start gathering parts for your dream. Maybe start with a power steering box as you can adapt a pump to your 170. then watch for a transmission setup you can sometimes score a bronco C4 for less than what a adapter alone will cost you of course the tranny will probably need to be rebuilt. but that can be done fairly cheap as well.
Basically if you get a parts list together and somewhat of a idea of what you want. Then just watch for deals on the parts you need or can use sometimes your direction will change as you find a good deal on a different part. but in any case you will have a place to start.

Being the first year the 66 s are worth more stock. It would cheaper to sell the 66 and get one with a v8 already. In it. A lot cheaper. Just to run the 4rw70 I'm in over 2k just for the granny swap. Not to mention several hours of tweaking things

Good idea SPAP. Stock is prob the better option long term. For the cost of the f150 and the swap I could probably just buy a later model that has the V8 and all the goodies and work on that as a separate project.

Worth is a matter of opinion and whose buying. If a early 66 is complete and in good condition its worth maybe a little more but on the down side orginal parts are not as easy to get so if its beat up a little or a lot then its not really worth anymore than anything else.
