I just viewed, crawled under, checked for rust, etc...and test drove a 1970 sky view blue Bronco. I left a deposit and plan to pick up this weekend.

I would appreciate any feedback/comments from the forum on the Bronco. I did get a little negotiation on the price and it does come with a lot of extra parts.

I have learned a lot from reviewing the CB forums over the past year and expect to need some more help in the months ahead. Thank you!

A few pic's might still be posted at: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/cto/2707498697.html

Ad description included the following details:

This is a clean, rust free, garage kept and mostly original Bronco with practical and functional upgrades that improve performance yet maintain the stock factory look.

• 302 V-8, stock 3-speed replaced with Ford C-4 Automatic trans. Runs really cool with two trans-coolers (one with switched fan). B&M trans fluid temp gauge. Matching chrome T-handle shifter from a 1970 Mustang.
• Tom's 3.5 inch lift: ProComp shocks, 11 leaf rear spring packs, front progressive coils, dropped pitman arm, track bar drop bracket, all new bushings front and rear. Extended brake and emergency-brake lines. Rebuilt and lengthened rear driveshaft.
• 31-10.5-15 Pirelli all terrains on stock rims and hub-caps. Full size spare.
• Big bearing Ford 9 inch rear with new 31 spline axles and custom built aggressive Track-Loc, 3:50 gears
• Dana 30 front axle with factory Power-Lock, 3.50 gears.
• Stock Distributor with Pertronix Ignitor & 40k volt coil.
• Replaced stock Motorcraft 2100 2bbl carb with MC 2150 which has a high altitude compensator (also have original stock 2100).
• Bronco power steering.
• Other stuff: tachometer, Optima battery, rebuilt heater: new core, gaskets and heater valve. Every gauge and every light fully functional including horn, windshield washer, turn signals, etc. Has main and saddle gas tanks, factory manual throttle. Bikini top included. Have original chrome bumpers in addition to off-road bumpers.
• Sale includes set (40) of Bronco Driver Magazines and lots of extra trail parts. I have original factory Owner's Manual and original Ford shipping/build sheet.

Definitely seems like a good deal to me. What's the history on it? How many owners? Any major bodywork performed? Definitely post some detailed pics. It's considered porn around these parts.

Bottom line is if it's truely rust free, runs and drives as good as it looks, you'd have to spend $25000 to get one looking and running like the one you purchased. By the way, I love that color. I had an FJ40 years ago in the same powder blue. It was rusty as hell with not an ounce of shine left on it, but people used to always say that they loved the color of it.

1970 EB info

Yeah, I almost pulled the trigger last year on a "sky view 1974" and held off....I did not expect another to show up less than 10 miles from my current home. Background; always a California bronco; original purchase and build documentation comes with vehicle. Four previous owners including current. The current owner also knows the second owner, so vehicle history seems solid for maintenance, etc.. The original owners manual includes info from the first owner with notes, etc... Only minor body damage was a small dent on the lower left rear quarter panel...maybe 3-4 inches, but you can feel the inner metal and it appears to have been a good repair. Most of the exterior paint is still original so you can see some wear up close, but the undercarriage is clean and solid and the interior paint is perfect. No carpet covering anything, condition was easy to determine.

Congrats my friend!

This link is dead, but I'm glad to see you were able to find what looks like a good one. I'll look forward to seeing it at the trail head and around the town.

I saw that one on CL yesterday and would have bought it if I had the dough especially if it is rust free.

Tim, Thanks look forward to it...weather & work have been keeping me off the trails lately.

Big Jim, "cmc" are only initials for my name.....I am a Marine; completing my 21st year of active duty service this year and preparing for a 1 year Afghanistan deployment. I have also worked with some great Navy CMC's.

Yes, the current owner removed link, but I will add some pic's when I finalize the deal this weekend. However, I completed another test drive and "garage fit". No issues found yet....I spent another 1/2 hour inspecting the undercarriage, fire wall, and all the "common rust areas". Still a solid EB...found a few add'l scratches, minor dings, but overall the body, engine, transmission, suspension, differentials, all appear to be in great condition.

I saw that link too. Looks like a nice Bronco. I'd volunteer to go look at it with you, but it would really just be an excuse to see the truck. ;D I'm in Poway too, so stop by when you get it.

Congrats!

Completed deal; 1970 Bronco @ Home

Well, it was a long search, but I am very pleased with my 1970 Bronco;D. I completed the deal tonight; loaded all the extra parts, bumpers, etc and made the 6 mile drive home. The only real problem was the drive home not being long enough. I will post some pic's soon, but still need to complete the contributor fee paperwork. CB members; thanks again for the education and support. Oh yeah, best of all, wife and family love the Bronco too!

So... I saw a very nice sky blue bronco exiting the south bound 15 and heading into MCAS Miramar today a little after noon. Didn't happen to be yours did it? Beautiful Bronco!

BTW- stay safe over while you're on deployment. My nephew is there now and I worry about him quite a bit. Take care of yourself!

Tim,

Yes, that was me enjoying the Bronco! I was on my way to deposit the $$$ from my Thanksgiving Day jeep sale. ;D Almost paid for the Bronco purchase. I appreciate your comments about my deployment; thankfully I will be with my family for this Christmas and New Year. Pass on a thanks to your nephew as well. It is not easy being deployed and even more challenging during this time of year. I hope he returns safely. Mike

Hey Mike, I had a feeling that was you. I was taking the kids to the aviation museum on the base when the back seat erupted with screaming kids yelling "bronco!". I was a bit ahead of you but from what I saw it looks like a very nice one. You've gotta' be happy. Glad to hear you'll be here through the holidays. I can't imagine doing what you guys do but appreciate it and am extremely thankful for it.

I'll look forward seeing more of that truck!
