1975 Ignition Timing Specs

Okay, I think my 75 Bronco with a 302 and auto trans is running rich. It smells strongly of gasoline every time I start it. I removed a spark plug and it was black and wet looking. The spark plug smelled of gas.

So I am getting ready to do a tune up: Spark plugs, air filter, etc. I was going to check the timing, but in the Chilton book that I have, there is no timing specification for a 1975-1977. They all say to "See underhood specifications sticker." I looked for a sticker in the engine compartment, but I think it is long gone.

For a 1966-1974 it says "6B" for the ignition timing spec. Can I use this spec on my 75? Which by the way has no emissions controls on it. But as you may know 1975-1977 Broncos used electronic ignition not breaker points.

Thank You

Carl, depending on the grade of fuel you run, your engines specs, and altitude of where you live, you can vary the initial timing any where from that 6b to about 14b...
If you advance the timing too much you will get "pinging" under load/ acceleration, and will know immediately that you need to readjust.
Try 10* to start, let us know how it turns out.
