1976 D44 w/1970 D30 Steering Setup?

Can you use the steering rods from a 1970 D30 with a 1976 D44 or does it need to be the inverted Y setup?

It doesn't have to be the inverted y, but the tierod ends are different sizes. If you want the early EB setup, wildhorses and others have a setup that bolts up to the 76/77s.
